The proposal should include a suggested timeline for phasing out cages. Financial support will be key to making the transition work. While moving to cage-free systems may require significant upfront investment, many of the benefits are realised over time.

By the end of this year, the European Commission is expected to release its long-awaited revision proposal of the legislation for the welfare of laying hens and broiler chickens, responding to the European Citizensโ€™ Initiative โ€˜End the Cage Ageโ€™.

๐ŸŽ‰ Woolrich Europe is going fur-free! This means fewer animals will suffer for fashion and sends a powerful message to the industry: compassion is what consumers want. Thank you to everyone who spoke up, signed petitions and took action.

The Dutch courts have just ruled that the State Secretary must ensure that the ban on tail-docking of pigs must be properly enforced. The ban has been systematically flouted in the Netherlands for 30 years.

The @europarl.europa.eu research service has just issued a briefing on practical pathways for effective coexistence with large carnivores.

It states โ€œnon-lethal livestock protection measures should always be the first line of defence.โ€

WE WON. Lead in gunshot will finally be banned across the EU! Just now, the European Parliament approved in plenary the Commission's proposal to restrict lead in gunshot. This decision ends years of debate on one of Europe's most persistent forms of lead pollution.

It was a privilege to observe red deer at the National Park De Hoge Veluwe this weekend. Noticed that one female was collared. Not sure if a tracking device was attached.

The fur industry costs European governments and taxpayers money, is opposed by most European citizens, and โ€” through this exemption โ€” continues to add to the Russian economy during its war against Ukraine.

So why is Europe still allowing it to continue?

Dr @joswabe.bsky.social, Senior Director of Public Affairs at Humane World for Animals Europe, explained: "The EU cannot credibly maintain sanctions on Russian luxury goods while carving out exemptions for the raw materials that allow luxury fur manufacturing to continue inside Europe."

A new article from @eurcorrespond.bsky.social exposes a glaring contradiction in EU policy: in April, the EU banned imports of tanned fur pelts from Russia as part of a sanctions package. Just three months later, in July, EU governments allowed an exemption for Russian sable fur pelt imports.

As the EU considers the future of fur farming, the evidence is clear: there is no humane future for an industry built on animal suffering.
Itโ€™s time for the EU to ban fur farming. ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ๐ŸฆŠ
