The Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians passed a resolution opposing harmful initiatives I-001 and I-638. Seeding Justice Executive Director Se-ah-dom Edmo said, “These measures do not reflect our values, and we will not stand by while our young people are used as political targets."

The teens face the camera while holding white signs with red text that say “No Hate in WA State - Vote NO on I-001 & I-638.” Text below the photo reads: Press Release, October 8, 2026, Pacific Northwest Tribes Unanimously Oppose Ballot Initiatives IL26-001 and IL26-638.

I-001 repeals existing laws that ensure parents are informed when their child needs them most. Join Senator John Lovick and hundreds of elected officials, educators, counselors, domestic violence experts, doctors, and community groups in voting NO on I-001 when your ballot arrives.

A photo shows Senator John Lovick, a Black man with glasses, wearing a gray suit and speaking into a microphone. On top of the image, a text box quotes his op-ed from the Everett Herald. The headline reads: Lovick: Why this former sheriff is voting no on I-001. His attribution reads: Sen. John Lovick, Mill Creek, WA. The quote reads: “I urge voters to get the facts and reject this dangerous measure that would put thousands of vulnerable young people at greater risk of harm.”

I-638 discriminates against girls and puts them at risk of harm. Over 100 WA pediatricians, family doctors and nurses say I-638’s new sex inspection requirements will force them to conduct medically unnecessary and potentially harmful tests on girls. Vote NO on I-638 when your ballot arrives.

A screenshot of a news article from KOMO News is on a pale orange background. The header image is a high school girls soccer team huddling on the field in sky blue uniforms. The article’s headline states: What’s at stake: voters to decide on girls’ sports issue this November. The excerpt from the article reads: "We're putting the burden on girls (who want to play sports) as a justification for this witch-hunt to find trans girls who want to play sports with their friends," she said. "It's really incredibly unfair." In fact, Hipp said she does not believe that this initiative is about girls' safety at all.“ A dark orange footer says “Vote No on I-638.”

I-001 puts kids at greater risk of abuse. We can't let this harmful measure pass.

Join Tacoma school counselor Jamie and hundreds of other educators, doctors, nurses, parents, and domestic violence experts by voting NO on I-001 when your ballot arrives. #NoHateWAState

White text boxes are on top of a purple-filtered photo of tall lockers in a high school hallway. The first text box says: Tacoma News Tribune Letter: Oppose Harmful Initiatives I-001 & I-638. The Author is listed as Jaime, School Counselor, Tacoma, WA. The second text box quotes the letter to the editor: "My ability to protect our students’ safety as a counselor would be compromised under I-001. This initiative removes common sense school record protections for victims of child abuse. It also forces educators like me to out LGBTQ+ youth to unsupportive families, putting them at greater risk of abuse or homelessness.” A dark purple footer with white text says Vote NO on I-001 & I-638.

As election day nears, the momentum against I-638 and I-001 continues to grow. @murray.senate.gov and @governorferguson.bsky.social are both speaking out against both of the these harmful initiatives.

A photo of Senator Patty Murray speaking at a podium in front of an American flag is above text that reads: Press Release, September 29, 2026, Sen. Patty Murray, Governor Ferguson, The Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians, Seattle School Board, and Local Governments Strongly Oppose I-638 and I-001.A white text box on a light orange background reads: U.S. Senator Patty Murray said: "These initiatives won't make a single kid safer or a single game fairer. Before I was a Senator, I was a PTA mom, and I'm joining the Washington State PTA in urging a NO vote on I-001 and I-638. I know when something is being sold to parents under a false label, and that's exactly what these initiatives are: a cynical political project being bankrolled by a single far-right megadonor."A white text box on a light orange background reads: Washington State Governor Bob Ferguson, who has previously spoken out against I-001, said about I-638: “Washingtonians should know that I-638 won’t create opportunities for girls but it will force them into invasive sex verification exams in order to participate in sports. That’s why I’m urging Washingtonians to vote no.”
@nohateinwastate.bsky.socialOct 1, 2026, 6:03 PM

I-638 is the most extreme measure of its kind in the US. It discriminates against girls with invasive sex inspections that will drive more girls away from sports by imposing new burdens, costs, humiliation, and possible harm.

A quote is written in dark purple text on a lavender background: “People like Brian Heywood use initiatives to cultivate violence. He attacks children and youths. This is why these initiatives must be thrown back in his face with a resounding defeat in November. I can’t fix what is happening in Louisiana, but I can stand my ground here at home. Vote no on I-001 & I-638!” Below the quote is the author’s info: Linden Jordan, published in Cascadia Daily News. This is written next to a small circular photo of Linden. If a student is the victim of a serious crime at school, parents should not have to wait to find out. I-001 will weaken parental notification requirements. This only adds to the child's trauma, experts say.

And this is why WA initiative 001 is so dangerous to teens. There is no exception for teachers and counselors mandated to tell parents about their conversations, even if the student is unsafe at home. Teens need trusted adults to talk to safely… #nohateinWAstate @nohateinwastate.bsky.social

Dr. Madie Gore is one of +100 medical providers who oppose I-638.

This harmful initiative would force tens of thousands of young girls to undergo intrusive, medically unnecessary, and potentially harmful genital exams just to play school sports.

A photo of Dr. Madie Gore fills the post. She is wearing a blue cardigan and her stethoscope, standing in front of her home with a fall wreath on the door. You shouldn’t back initiative to sex test female players. By Madie Gore, MD, Tacoma, WA.” On the right side of the post, her letter is quoted: "I-638 is unnecessary, not backed by clinical guidelines, and would create unwarranted stress and harm for young girls."

I-001 and I-638 are threatening our kids' safety. I-001 weakens parents’ rights to know their child has been the victim of a crime at school. I-638 will subject girls to medically unnecessary and potentially harmful genital exams just to play sports.

At a time when youth depression is at record highs and more than half of teenagers experience anxiety or depression, it makes no sense to change longstanding state laws in a way that could discourage struggling youth from seeking help.

A quote is written in white text on a dark orange background: “I-001 will deprive K-12 students of their right to have private conversations with school counselors and social workers.
