@ebdonana.bsky.socialAlthough reservoirs cannot replace the ecological value of natural lakes, they can provide important habitat and refuge for waterbirds in regions where many natural wetlands have disappeared or been severely degraded, such as the Mediterranean.

While natural lakes face more severe and unpredictable conditions that limit the range of species able to survive, reservoirs allow species with key ecological functions to arrive and establish.
