I keep forgetting to advertise my calling gigs, but I’m on a New York mini tour this weekend and then leading a couple English dances back home in what remains of October!
I promise to be in costume for some of them.
Annoyed to report that getting out of my apartment and doing Activities has in fact improved my mood 😡
Hot take: Wordle in 1 is a much better game than Wordle.
@JoshMarantz 1Password's fly-in let me sign into Discord with my passkey with a single click. Haven't had a chance to observe the process with other sites yet.
I HAVE TO SEE THIS
I got my heart broken this week, so I'm indulging in art about it, which, seems like one of the more productive things I could do about it.
"5. 'Am I in love? —Yes, since I'm waiting.' The other never waits. Sometimes I want to play the part of the one who doesn't wait; I try to busy myself elsewhere, to arrive late; but I always lose at this game: whatever I do, I find myself there, with nothing to do, punctual, even ahead of time […]

The Uses of Sorrow (In my sleep I dreamed this poem) Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness. It took me years to understand that this, too, was a gift. — Mary Oliver
“A mandarin fell in love with a courtesan. ‘I shall be yours,’ she told him, ‘when you have spent a hundred nights waiting for me, sitting on a stool, in my garden, beneath my window.’ But on the ninety-ninth night, the mandarin stood up, put his stool under his arm, and went away.” — Barthes
“The truth of the matter is that—by an exorbitant paradox—I never stop believing that I am loved. I hallucinate what I desire. Each wound proceeds less from a doubt than from a betrayal: for only the one who loves can betray, only the one who believes himself loved can be jealous: that the other […]
The weird takes I'm responding to seem to be based on the idea that hardware attestation could lock you into a device, OS, or browser to access their services. But Google *already* has control of a full stack of device/OS/browser/services (as does Apple and, for that matter, Microsoft)—if they […]
@jwisser I think that's a pretty decent analysis! (But, of course, is not in and of itself a ding against passkeys.) The education campaign on passkeys has not been done well! Admittedly, it's also hard to do well. I'm trying to do my part.
@JoshMarantz Interesting! I think I've noticed this on some sites, but not all, so I've assumed it depends how the site is configured? Although the new fly-in flow has changed things somewhat. I'm gonna pay closer attention to this and see what's going on!
Don't take my word for it.

Since I wrote this post, I've used the "login with your phone" flow many times and it's been reliable for me with only occasional friction or bugs. @joshtodon told me he thought it was the flow the whole thing hinges on and at this point, I think he's right. Using my phone as a physical key to […]
I've seen some pretty weird takes on passkeys floating around here the past couple days, so I'm just going to leave this old post I wrote here. TL;DR: Passkeys are good, they're managed by the same software that already manages your passwords (assuming you're using a password manager), and […]
Last week, at Youth Dance Weekend in Fairlee VT, I called my first full dance festival. It nicely caps off the five years of calling I’ve just had.
calling stuff psyops is a psyop
You can get started with JournalKit here:
JournalKit is a piece of software for a specific need and a specific kind of person: someone who wants to design their own physical daily journal for writing in, but prefers to think in code, modules, and measurements while doing so.
