I can’t stop laughing about this nothing screams “we are not at all salty about multiple award-winning journalists quitting their jobs at this paper to start a new thing” like not even naming a single one of them

Congrats to our peers at ORB and BAC—whom we adore!!—but seeing the SF Chronicle treat @coyotemedia.org as a footnote in this piece is hilarious.

Meme of a person being chased by a goose with the text "WHICH LEGACY MEDIA OUTLETS"

“a group of journalists left their legacy media outlets to build the Coyote Media Collective” says the SF Chronicle lol the legacy outlet was YOU 😂

OpenAI job posting the fact of needing to pay someone to shape “external narratives” about your safety research actually seems to paint a pretty clear narrative about your safety research but maybe that’s just me

People in California who are facing a terrible ICE surge: remember that if you need whistles, we are still sending them out for free.

In fact, we just passed 1.7 million whistles sent out.

I believe they’re still using a thing called DIBELS? I haven’t heard much about it, good or bad, but I don’t think it’s AI

never feel closer to my fellow San Franciscans than walking down the street making eye contact with strangers when we are all visibly annoyed at the blue angels

SF and Oakland are more different during this tech boom than during either previous one. Why?

this law firm out of Austin has been taking on a lot of ed tech cases and might be able to help? edtech.law

a reader also alerted me to the fact that a VP at Amira, Malia Vella, is running for mayor in Alameda. Would be in her best interest not to ignore you, if you wanna try that route

For The New York Times, I wrote about how Rod Serling create The Twilight Zone in part because it was the only way in the 1950 and 60s for him to comment on the subjects he cared about most, and how that's a good blueprint for contemporary media to deal with our surreal current moment:

park land here is gonna be great, but a small part of me is sad for everyone who won't get to watch a Journey cover band while drinking dollar beers on a beautiful Sunday afternoon

agree! I didn't have space for it but this law firm out of Austin seems to have taken the lead on representing parents & districts (like LA Unified) with some test cases, smart folks edtech.law

a little louder for the cheap seats in the back

One of the biggest myths is that men rape by mistake. Like, "Oh, they need consent training." But research is very clear: Sexual violence is not a mistake. It is an intentionally made decision by people who know they don't have consent. They just don't prioritize consent over things like status, power, domination, and sexual gratification.
For my research, I got a certificate of confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health, so my notes couldn't be subpoenaed. One of the reasons I call them perpetrators in my work is because every single person I interviewed confessed in that context. The first question I would ask them was, "When you received that email from Title IX that you were under investigation, did you know what it was about?" Every perpetrator I interviewed said "yes." If sexual assault were a miscommunication, you would be wondering, What have I possibly done wrong? That is not the way that any of them reacted because they knew.
