“Parties,” ORB’s Satris said, “are a key part of the strategy.”

treat your body like a data center. consume as much water, art and literature as possible. upset local municipalities with your existence.

See you at Portal today!!!

@oaklandreviewofbooks.orgOct 6, 2026, 10:19 PM

Come to our happy hour at Portal tomorrow (4 pm) and we'll give you a few!

@oaklandreviewofbooks.orgOct 6, 2026, 6:17 PM

You can be happy in other hours, if you want. But these ones are the important ones.

@oaklandreviewofbooks.orgOct 6, 2026, 6:14 PM

We at ORB wish to formally condemn (and call-in) Bathers Library for posting dope events mere minutes after we put up our calendar, such as this "freaky spooky wikipedia show and tell": www.instagram.com/p/DeKTIohGp1...

Do better, Bathers. Do better.

@oaklandreviewofbooks.orgOct 6, 2026, 6:07 PM

We have monthly happy hours! The next one is tomorrow, at Portal at 4. (If you go to our website, it always tells you when the next happy hour will be)

Weekly calendar of literary events is up at @oaklandreviewofbooks.org! Some are not in Oakland, some are not literary, all of them are interesting to us at ORB: www.oaklandreviewofbooks.org/oakland-revi...

Increasingly common @oaklandreviewofbooks.org W: r/oakland, r/sanfrancisco, AND r/bayarea all have popping threads about this article. To be fair almost no one commenting has read the piece, but... the discourse is there.

Lotsa options

@oaklandreviewofbooks.orgOct 2, 2026, 11:31 PM

Consider this scenario: District A is no longer using the slides since their teachers know the lessons and feel confident they could run lessons without them. For any teacher, parent, or student—and for me and my Customer Success team—this is a good sign, as it means the teachers have bought into the curriculum.

District B, on the other hand, just doesn’t care about the curriculum, so they aren’t using the slides, which is not a good thing. District C is “using” the slides, meaning teachers are displaying them in their classrooms, but they aren’t following the curriculum. The teachers are running on autopilot, likely using an outdated curriculum, with disengaged students. That’s also not a good thing. Having spoken to administrators and teachers at all three districts at length, I know their specific situations and would have made different recommendations for each.

But what do you think AI would have inferred? It’s not: These districts are different and have different needs. Nor is it: Maybe the kids at District A really are learning and they’re ready to go further with the curriculum. It’s: District C is doing great, and District A and B need to use the slides more.

I know that’s what it would say because that’s what the data would tell it. In fact, that’s all the data could tell it, and without speaking to teachers and district personnel and taking them seriously as people, with wants and needs and problems other than problems that our product can solve, it couldn’t know anything else because it’s making decisions in a vacuum.
