This is only the first step in the process of raising the wage in Kirkland, and I am hopeful that we will become the first Eastside city to raise the wage floor.

A big thank you to @seattletru.bsky.social, @ufcw3000.bsky.social, & many others who have also been advocating for this

After hearing testimony directly from workers about how it would improve their lives and their coworkers' lives, City Council voted unanimously to move forward with a plan for further engagement with buisnesses and workers in #Kirkland

@alyciaramirez3.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 6:30 AM

Tonight, about 19 community members, including Starbucks and grocery workers, came to Kirkland City Hall to support raising the minimum wage to match unincorporated King County's wage floor of $20.82/hr.

Independientemente de lo que le suceda a WAISN, este trabajo continuará con o sin ellos.

Aquí hay algunas líneas directas alternativas de actividad de #ICE:

@alyciaramirez3.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 5:15 PM

WAISN fue una vez una de las organizaciones más confiables y impulsadas por la comunidad en el estado, dedicada a los inmigrantes de WA. Ahora están participando en la lucha contra los sindicatos y su organización ya no está escuchando a las comunidades a las que sirven.

@alyciaramirez3.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 5:15 PM

Regardless of what happens to WAISN, this work will continue with or without them.

Here are some alternate #ICE activity hotlines:

➡️Snohomish County: (425) 587-7877

➡️East King County Hotline: (425) 361-0808

WA Immigrant Solidarity network was once one of the most trusted & community driven orgs in the state, dedicated to WA immigrants.

Now they are engaging in union busting & their org is no longer listening to the communities they serve.

I am proud to be one of dozens of signers, along with labor and community groups, who signed this letter urging the #Kirkland City Council to raise the municipal min wage to match unincorporated King County's floor of $20.82/hr at the upcoming October 6th council meeting.

Give in-person or written comment in support of raising the minimum wage to match unincorporated King County's, at the upcoming Tuesday, Oct. 6th Kirkland City Council meeting. You must sign up virtually to submit in-person or written comment at 7 p.m. that day.

If you live or work in Kirkland, you can: 1) Email City Council at: [email protected] and urge them to move forward and increase the minimum wage to match unincorporated King County's $20.82 per hour.

@alyciaramirez3.bsky.socialOct 2, 2026, 6:57 AM

That might not sound like much, but for those workers living paycheck to paycheck, it could mean the difference between maintaining what housing they have or ending up on the street. This is especially true in one of the region's most expensive housing markets.

@alyciaramirez3.bsky.socialOct 2, 2026, 6:57 AM

#Kirkland has never raised the minimum wage citywide. Yet cities like SeaTac, Burien, and Renton have a minimum wage floor that is $3.50-$4.50/hr higher than Kirkland's. Unincorporated King County has a floor of $20.82 per hour.

@alyciaramirez3.bsky.socialOct 2, 2026, 6:57 AM

At the Tuesday, October 6th #Kirkland City Council meeting, the council will review the economic impact and competitiveness study results and decide whether to move forward with raising the minimum wage citywide or take no action. 🧵

From what was posted in the Reason video, it looks like whoever made the report is probably a volunteer, but Andrea Suarez is convinced that this is a "plot against her and WHS" cooked up by folks she hates. The investigation is currently still open.

@alyciaramirez3.bsky.socialSep 29, 2026, 10:03 PM

Funny that We 💚 Seattle & Jonathan Choe are now trying to convince folks that I made the report to LNI, against WHS. I don't have any control over which state agencies investigate and for what reasons, but sure, let's throw out some racism just coz. Also, Reason never once reached out to me.

I am one of the only renters quoted in this Seattle Times piece about our crazy-expensive real estate market in #Kirkland.

My hope is that we can become a community where buying a home isn't just an unobtainable dream for many.

www.seattletimes.com/business/rea...

Buving in Kirkland remains a dream for some.
Alycia Ramirez, 34, and her husband, Juan, 41, live in a rented two-bedroom apartment in Finn Hill, paying about $2,200 a month, which doesn't include utilities.

Ramirez grew up in Kirkland and works as a supervisor in a grocery store near their apartment. Her husband commutes out of the city to work in an auto body shop.

She views Kirkland as home and was recently appointed to the city's transportation commission. She plans to stay for at least five more years for her 13-year-old son to graduate.

Some of her co-workers have bought homes in Kirkland, which gives her hope. However, lower-cost options aren't coming fast enough. She said her rent increases $150 to $200 per month each time they sign a new lease.
"It's deeply frustrating for us,' Ramirez said. ""We would like to buy either a small property or a small home at some point, and we know that will be incredibly difficult," she said.

If you live or work in #Kirkland, you can submit written or in-person comments to City Council for the first public hearing on the proposed budget, in favor of prioritizing more funding for Human Services & Affordable Housing, at the Nov 4th council meeting.

This visual proposed budget for 2026-27', shown at City Hall 4 All in #Kirkland last weekend, is... depressing.

Police & Courts would get $100.6M in the city budget, while Human Services & Affordable Housing would only get crumbs of the budget at $7.6M
