Excited to see our friends at Eastside Urbanism publish this great op-ed! Bellevue should rethink extending NE Spring Boulevard and instead fill the gap with a bike and pedestrian trail—it's cheaper and fits the future BelRed park much better. Read the op-ed here #Kirkland

I am proud to be one of dozens of signers, along with labor and community groups, who signed this letter urging the #Kirkland City Council to raise the municipal min wage to match unincorporated King County's floor of $20.82/hr at the upcoming October 6th council meeting.

#Kirkland has never raised the minimum wage citywide. Yet cities like SeaTac, Burien, and Renton have a minimum wage floor that is $3.50-$4.50/hr higher than Kirkland's. Unincorporated King County has a floor of $20.82 per hour.

At the Tuesday, October 6th #Kirkland City Council meeting, the council will review the economic impact and competitiveness study results and decide whether to move forward with raising the minimum wage citywide or take no action. 🧵

I am one of the only renters quoted in this Seattle Times piece about our crazy-expensive real estate market in #Kirkland.

My hope is that we can become a community where buying a home isn't just an unobtainable dream for many.

Buving in Kirkland remains a dream for some.
Alycia Ramirez, 34, and her husband, Juan, 41, live in a rented two-bedroom apartment in Finn Hill, paying about $2,200 a month, which doesn't include utilities.

Ramirez grew up in Kirkland and works as a supervisor in a grocery store near their apartment. Her husband commutes out of the city to work in an auto body shop.

She views Kirkland as home and was recently appointed to the city's transportation commission. She plans to stay for at least five more years for her 13-year-old son to graduate.

Some of her co-workers have bought homes in Kirkland, which gives her hope. However, lower-cost options aren't coming fast enough. She said her rent increases $150 to $200 per month each time they sign a new lease.
"It's deeply frustrating for us,' Ramirez said. ""We would like to buy either a small property or a small home at some point, and we know that will be incredibly difficult," she said.

If you live or work in #Kirkland, you can submit written or in-person comments to City Council for the first public hearing on the proposed budget, in favor of prioritizing more funding for Human Services & Affordable Housing, at the Nov 4th council meeting.

This visual proposed budget for 2026-27', shown at City Hall 4 All in #Kirkland last weekend, is... depressing.

Police & Courts would get $100.6M in the city budget, while Human Services & Affordable Housing would only get crumbs of the budget at $7.6M

Last night, ~2 dozen folks gathered for our 2nd annual bed-warmer work party! In just 1 hour, we turned 320 lbs of feed corn & new socks into 179 microwaveable bed warmers to keep our unsheltered neighbors warm this winter. It was such a great mix of new and familiar faces! 🧦 #Kirkland
