The absolute worst possible version of this service is incredibly popular. Imagine a decent electric set that ran all the way tthrough the CRL 🤯

Thousands of happy sports fans poured out of Eden Park on Saturday... and then waited longer than expected for trains.

What's the best solution for this "peak of the peak" situation - and who should pay for it? Matt Lowrie lays out some options: www.greaterauckland.org.nz/2026/10/12/s...

With Mill Road back in the news again (as a campaign promise from the National Party), it's a good moment to look back at our previous coverage of this wildly overscoped project.

Today's throwback post was first published in 2018, and we stand by our take: www.greaterauckland.org.nz/2026/10/08/t...

"This is a timely book for Auckland. As our city becomes denser, its streets need to work harder. Car parking, which may previously have worked as a free-for-all, must now be managed deliberately."

Contrast Woodend & Mill Rd super expensive mega road projects: Woodend is the conventional + welcome highway bypass of a town, Mill Rd is the bonkers highway bypass of a highway THROUGH a town!? Urban SH1 is failing so let's duplicate it thru where people live, + generate even more traffic onto it 🤷‍♀️

With election campaigning under way, we ask how recent transport policy announcements might impact Auckland.

TL;DR: If you had a few billion $ to solve our traffic woes, would you invest it in encouraging more traffic—or creating more traffic-free options? www.greaterauckland.org.nz/2026/10/06/t...

Mill Road sucks: "In other words, it would cost the country more than the entire City Rail Link project… to enlarge one local road in Auckland, parallel to an existing motorway, in a way that will change nothing: people will still be stuck in traffic." www.greaterauckland.org.nz/2026/10/06/t...

With City Rail Link (CRL) now open & wonderful, it's worth remembering how basic Auckland's rail system was in 2009.

These photos show Otāhuhu; a tiny halt served by rattling diesels.

Rail-wise it took real vision to move things up to where they are today.
