Vancouver's election isn't easy for pro-housing voters. Here are my endorsements:

✅ Vote for ALL OneCity Candidates + Armor Valor

And I have one major anti-endorsement:

❌ NO on Stephanie Smith (Green)

POD DROP Municipal elections: Alex Hemingway joins us to talk about how BC’s biggest cities need to do a lot better if they want to fix the housing crisis.

Reminder that Stephanie Smith used to run one of the most vile and foul twitter accounts this town has ever seen, and that’s saying a lot for this town. Consider that when you vote for her. I will not be.

Do you like traffic calming?! Neighbours are organizing this counter-petition to show support for the Hastings-Sunrise traffic calming work, which two municipal parties have now made promises to tear out if elected: www.change.org/p/keep-the-c...

Thank you, just hope it's helpful for people in getting more engaged with local issues!

amen @doniveson.bsky.social

I’ll go further. The effective message here to our kids (and it’s a crying shame that Canadian young people are preoccupied with worry about finding housing when they grow up) is this: protecting current homeowners’ position by upending valid municipal laws, freezing Neighbourhoods in time, and dictating the ‘character’ of adjacent private property (good luck, that word ‘character’ is next to impossible to usefully define in law, we’ve tried) — all these factors take precedence over your future housing needs, kiddos, and by the way these factors are more important than your future cost of living.

Big cities must do better to fix the housing crisis.

We have a severe shortage of homes, yet cities like Vancouver continue to block apartments across most residential areas, driving up the cost of market and non-market homes alike.

The median Vancouverite was born in 1986. This is pining for a city that ceased to exist long before the majority of people could ever have known it.

When people campaign on “affordable housing only” they’re usually just saying build nothing & hope new older cheaper buildings magically appear or maybe gov’ts just come in and pay for whole new buildings (which is not how gov’t programs work, btw)

High comedy.

Ok and that's it! Imo Allam came across the best by a lot. Bligh pretty good too. Hardwick the worst. Sim's anti-public safety turn (and that's what his anti-traffic calming stance is) is super crappy.

@pwaldkirch.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 1:07 AM

Fry: all about quality of life. On transpo gives shout out to vision zero. Staff recommended lowering speed limits.

@pwaldkirch.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 1:07 AM

Bligh: free youth transit up to 18. Marine transportation network, need to leverage water. More ferry networks connecting transit within city. Bike valets downtown.

@pwaldkirch.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 1:07 AM

Allam: 0 means 0 wasn't a tax cut, just a tax shift. Ken sim not showing up to TransLink mayor's meetings. We're losing bus lines to Surrey. We need a mayor to fight for SkyTrain in the city.

@pwaldkirch.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 1:07 AM

Sim: will get rid of traffic calming. Decreasing speed limits a recipe for gridlock. (Uggghh ABC has made a big thing about moving backwards on road safety recently and it sucks) We've turned this city around. Asking for another 4 years. 0 means 0. Plebiscite questions.

@pwaldkirch.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 1:07 AM

Hardwick: balance. Infrastructure with housing. City has not been planning balance. Promoting let's build housing supply supply supply. Need to ask who will love there, where will they come from (uhhhhh).

@pwaldkirch.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 1:07 AM

Closing comments, along with remark: lots of questions about transportation. Hard to get around the city.

@pwaldkirch.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 12:56 AM

To Bligh: how many people need permanent care? Dozens? hundreds? Thousands? Bligh: follow up work with Larry Campbell. Need beat social workers.

@pwaldkirch.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 12:56 AM

To Fry: is the status quo re policing open drug use good? Fry: no. If you decrim without enforcement, you'll get a free for all, in the playground, in the tim Hortons. But answer is not to confiscate, but to divert to other locations. You can't do open drug use here, you can do it there.

@pwaldkirch.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 12:52 AM

Q to Hardwick. You mentioned supportive housing in Dunbar. That for huge opposition from locals. Was it right to build it despite opposition? Hardwick tries to interrupt Dan lol. But then basically refuses to engage with the question. Basically pretends it did get nhoods buy in.
