PSA: I just checked when the King County (WA) ballots are going out, and they are going out in the mail this Wednesday, October 14th, 20 days before election day. If you have problems receiving your ballot, like being out of town, you can download and print your ballot. There's an online ballot […]
@jonobie sigh. Not fun. :(
The last of the three King County sites is King County South (KCS) treatment plant, and its Sars-CoV-2 7DRA’s were super terrible, but improved a bit to the merely terrible level a couple of days later. The last 7DRA calculation was made on 9/29.
The Brightwater sewage treatment plant (BWT) in Woodinville 7DRA numbers are also terrible. Its last 7DRA calculation was made on 9/29.
Hello, here are the weekly #washingtonstate #kingcounty (that is, #seattle and environs) #COVID #COVID19 #wastewater toots.
A quick reminder that this King County respiratory disease data comes from Washington State, not the federal government.

Just got spam email from the President of the United States begging for money for his PAC. Blocked the POTUS. What a supremely weird world we live in. Relatedly, cannot wait for my ballot to arrive.
I previously speculated that the Snohomish site might be affected by the CDC's pause in its wastewater sampling contract, since that site's sampling is done by Verily and Verily is the current CDC contractor. But looking at this week's wastewater data, I don't see any gaps in the Snohomish […]

Ugh, why are Bsides PDX and SEAGL on the same days this year? :(
The last of the three King County sites is King County South (KCS) treatment plant, and its Sars-CoV-2 7DRA numbers are at their highest levels for the last twelve months. The last 7DRA calculation was made on 9/22.
The Brightwater sewage treatment plant (BWT) in Woodinville 7DRA numbers are high. Its last 7DRA calculation was made on 9/22.

This is a fascinating article about how an El Niño related phenomenon affects sea levels and sea temperatures up and down the west coast of all the Americas.

Via Betsy Ladyzhets at The Sick Times, the CDC says there will be an interruption in the reporting for about 200 respiratory disease #wastewater testing sites as they change contracts for testing companies: https://thesicktimes.org/2026/09/29/national-covid-19-trends-september-29/. The note at […]
Yesterday I tagged along with a friend who wanted to check out the Tieton river nature trail. This is an easy path that starts below the lovely Royal Columns. Pluses: the columns 😍, birdy past the Quonset Hut bridge. Minuses: some road noise, and the path is […]
I am a bit late on this, but yesterday the Seattle Times had an Else Takahama article about the current state of access to and insurance for winter respiratory vaccines in Washington State. It includes discussion about the new mRNA flu vaccine, now available to people aged 50+ […]
The US taxpayers are paying to run a 2024 Trump campaign ad in which — as god as my witness — he rails against warmongers.

Hey #Bellingham folks, Doctober, the documentary film festival, is coming up. Full schedule here: https://www.pickfordfilmcenter.org/doctober/
One of the entries in their short doc program is an 18-minute movie called _Into the Dark_. It's about night photographer Pete Mauney, who makes […]
I did my first phone-banking shift of the mid terms this week. There are a lot of states with toss-up house and senate races that can use remote help. You can find out about volunteer opportunities here:
