🗣️Maricarmen’s struggle has served to shine a bright light in Spain on the housing crisis and the plight of people who, when in need, are unable to access a basic necessity such as housing - CCOO General Secretary Unai Sordo

🗣️There is no pay rise or collective agreement in our country that can keep pace with rising house prices. We will fight to ensure that working people can live with dignity - UGT General Secretary Pepe Álvarez

🗣️Right-wing and far-right parties claim to stand up for working families, but when it came to the vote, they stood with speculators. Workers will judge them by how they voted, not by what they say. European trade unionists stand shoulder to shoulder with workers in Spain - @estherlynch.bsky.social

Maricarmen was evicted from her home of 70 years because she was unable to afford a 230% rent rise demanded by an investment firm which bought her building But right-wing parties in the Spanish parliament blocked two housing bills needed to ensure housing is for people not for vulture funds

You can’t fix labour shortages in public services without fixing the jobs.

On #WorldDayForDecentWork, we join the European trade union call for fair pay, safe staffing, training and a strong voice at work.

Europe’s Quality Jobs Act must deliver binding rights for workers!

"Europe will never win a race to the bottom on workers' rights. The Commission must deliver a Quality Jobs Act this year with binding laws, not more empty promises."

That's why the ETUC wants the Quality Jobs Act to deliver binding laws on: 🤖 AI & algorithmic management 🦺 Health & safety, incl. psychosocial & climate risks 🔗 Subcontracting & labour intermediation 🧑‍🏭 Just transition ✊ Enforcement & the role of social partners 🔌 Right to disconnect & telework

Low investment: spending on research and development is highest in countries where workers' participation rights are strong – and lowest where they are weak. Giving workers a voice drives innovation.

@etuc-ces.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 6:11 AM

Skills shortages: just 39.5% of workers are able to take part in training – far below the EU target of 60%. Collective bargaining helps: 66% of agreements include a right to training.

@etuc-ces.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 6:11 AM

Labour shortages: the industries struggling most to recruit pay 9% less on average than those least affected. If employers want workers, they need to offer decent pay.

Better jobs are good for workers. They're also crucial to a more competitive Europe. The main causes of Europe's competitiveness problem – labour shortages, skills shortages and low investment – are all closely linked to the quality of jobs 👇

Today is World Day for Decent Work.

Trade unions across Europe are taking action with one message for the @ec.europa.eu: the Quality Jobs Act must deliver binding laws that make a real difference to workers – not more empty promises.

"We organise. We build collective power instead of leaving people to stand alone. We bring people together instead of tearing them apart."

@etuc-ces.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 10:54 AM

"They scapegoat migrants and minorities. They seek to divide us because division makes people easier to manipulate, control, and defeat. But working people are better than that. We do not turn against one another."

@etuc-ces.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 10:54 AM

"The far-right hatred behind the terrorist attack and murders that day has not gone away. It has spread. Across Europe and beyond, far-right movements are gaining ground. They normalise racism. They normalise misogyny and homophobia."
