Please keep this in mind over the next few months. This is how I want to be honored: emulation, people following my example & becoming the change they want to see. Helping marginalized people is the main goal. Polishing my legacy should only be a priority in service of that goal.

In how many ways can this message be repeated? @emilymbender.bsky.social has been saying this for how long now?

πŸ”‡ πŸ”‡ πŸ”‡ My book, Deep Unlearning, is now available for preorders! I don't know how people write so many books because this one took a lot out of me. It turns out, I had a lot to say πŸ˜‚, with editors cutting out 50k of my words 🫣

✴️ You can now preorder it at www.simonandschuster.com/books/Deep-U....

Cover of my new book, Deep Unlearning: The Rise of AI and The Radicalization of a Tech Idealist.

There are two concentric circles in the book, the left being circuits in black an white, and the right being a bunch of dots with orange accents. The cover background is cream. And the words are written in black except for "Un" which is in orange.

Researcher @timnitgebru.blacksky.app says Silicon Valley discourse about the supposed "existential risks" of artificial intelligence is part of a ploy to avoid regulation of the industry.

Such important and thoughtful messaging ty. As #988Lifeline allows #AI into #CrisisLines space, & #Vibrant Emotional Health becomes a tech company, they run risk of destroying trust in the service. I wrote about this - paper title The "AI" Infestation of 988 Lifeline. Blogs, reformcrisistextline.com

A little reminder on #worldmentalhealthday that opening up about mental health struggles isn't always easy for anyone, but might be even harder for some.

Yes please I'd like to make #988Lifeline a zone.
some temporary recording wld be reasonable for quality control but that doesn't need AI

(I have always hate the way β€œprivacy” is conceptualized in most contexts tbh. tech bros have warped and weaponized it for their own gain and we need to either reclaim it or use a different word and I know folks are doing some of that good work so drop a link or mention if you feel so inclined :))

Important reminder on World Mental Health Day that allowing #AI into #CrisisLines space is a very very very...VERY bad idea.

Lack of consent, vulnerability of persons, tracking/surveillance, lack of transparency abt data storage & use breaks trust

It's not so much that we need to be afraid of AI itself, it's that we are afraid of what most *men* want to do with it -- to us.

@holdspacefree.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 2:41 PM

The paper "Common Knowledge of the Second Kind" by Dave Bella and Jonathan King is relevant to your note. Anticipating, almost 40 years ago, the β€œAI” realities of today and offering hopeful ways forward by nurturing human communities of care.

What's the betting someone has a little AI model that says better to pay 200 ppl pitiful compensation (Β£8 voucher for over 2 hrs so far) than pay another airline for well anything?

Are you a crisis line or tech worker for #988Lifeline? Are you someone who could breathe life into the website crisislineworkers.org, manage email lists, take on organizing labor? Are you someone who could communicate within orgs like #CrisisTextLine and #TheTrevorProject? Contact me.

A key component of the Cambridge Analytica outrage was your friends subjecting you to data theft without your consent or knowledge. Facebook is running the same playbook on your text messages. Even if you’re not on Meta properties, they’re ingesting your interactions.

Aten installed Muse on both his iPhone and a Mac mini that he uses to test out various Al agents and tech. It took Meta a single day to begin "helpfully" pitching article ideas based on texts he'd sent to a podcast co-host.
When he asked Muse how it got the information, it said that it read banners from incoming texts. But that's not true, either.
After doing a little digging, Aten says Muse synced 187,000 lines from his Messages database, despite Full Disk Access being Off.Unless Aten is the most popular person on the face of the planet, I sincerely doubt he'd gotten 187,000 lines of text in roughly 24 hours. What happened is that, without permission, Muse went into the app and downloaded the information.
He had not given Muse permission to access Messages, and full disk access was not enabled. It just went ahead and uploaded those texts anyway.
Muse can take "unexpected actions" indeed.

Meta Muse appears to read your Apple messages and upload them to the cloud even if you explicitly tell it not to: appleinsider.com/articles/26/...
