Voters show no interest in a return to two-party voting.
Multi-party politics is here to stay.
For supporters of First Past the Post, a voting system built for two parties, the question now is how much longer can they keep their heads in the sand.

We campaign for a vibrant, inclusive democracy that puts power in the hands of the people. Reposts do not imply endorsement.
In the 1950s heyday of the two-party system, over 9 in 10 voters backed Labour or the Tories. By the 1970s, 8 in 10 votes still went to one or the other. On current polling, Labour & the Tories combined would receive barely 5 in 10 votes. Talk of the return of two-party politics is for the birds.

The Electoral Commission must be independent of the politicians it regulates.
We fought to restore that independence. Now a Conservative Peer wants to put it back under government control.
We can't let that happen.
Help us defend an independent elections watchdog 👇

Defenders of First Past the Post claim it produces stable, single-party government in a two-party system. Kemi Badenoch says we have multi-party politics, political volatility & the prospect of a hung parliament. If FPTP can’t deliver on its own terms, what exactly is the case for keeping it?
If ministers and officials are sitting down with lobbyists, the public has a right to know what was discussed - especially when the firm involved does work on behalf of a foreign government. Lobbying is still lobbying even if it takes place over dinner & drinks rather than at a formal meeting.

Changing the voting system enjoys strong support among voters of all parties.
They want their votes to matter and their voice to be heard.
Our Director of Campaigns wrote for @left-foot-forward.bsky.social on why FPTP leaves voters feeling shut out of politics 👇

Are you at Green Party Conference today? 💚
Join us and @unlockdemocracy.bsky.social to discuss the threat that First Past the Post poses to our democracy, and how we can fix the system.
An independent national commission, with strong citizen and expert participation, is the best way to put electoral reform above the immediate interests of the government - or any party - and to build consent and legitimacy for a lasting settlement.

In its editorial, the FT has said electoral reform “could help to better align the UK’s anachronistic electoral model with an increasingly multi-party system.”
They’re right. FPTP was built for two parties. We need a new voting system fit for today’s multi-party politics.

A year ago this week, Andy Burnham told a Labour Conference event that ‘PR is an idea whose time has come.’ Now, as Prime Minister, he has kickstarted the process to deliver it. A huge moment for everyone who believes in fair votes! Time is running out on First Past the Post.
Proud to be one of 50 civil society organisations backing Fair Vote UK’s call for the Government to put civil society at the heart of its plans to rewire the British state.
Civil society should be a genuine partner in shaping change, not an afterthought.

The Prime Minister is right: First Past the Post is not fit for purpose in today’s multi-party politics. It bakes in instability and robs millions of voters of fair representation. It needs replacing.
Unelected politicians should not make our laws. Time for a reformed second chamber that’s accountable to the people.
Whether or not a donor should fall under the proposed £100k overseas donor cap misses the bigger point.
No individual should be able to give unlimited sums to a political party.
A single cap on all donations would be simpler, fairer and more effective.
🎯 "If you believe that the two people in question who have claimed not to want anything in return for their £36 million, if you believe that then I've got news for you, you will believe anything." Viscount Stansgate put it plainly this week. Mega donations bring mega influence.
