To be fair, not Murrow doing this (even if Murrow seems to be shrugging it off), but why would you slash writing gigs at a school uniquely filled with students who want to do this exact thing?

Ever wonder how home run distance is actually measured? It's not an exit velo/launch angle formula, despite the myth that it is. Really cool work from Riley @ Sportsball to show what goes into it:

Is "unknown" because you're not sure what will happen with the CBA? Or is that normally what you have for league minimum guys in the offseason? Just wondering if it's worth adding another 9*$800K or so to the "begin offseason" estimate on my end. (Obviously CBA could change that)

Humans are messy. We triumph and we fail and we spend way too much time focused on things that don’t matter. I spent most of this season trying to figure out what went wrong with the Seattle Mariners, and my best guess (short of insane conspiracy theories)? They were, simply, human.

Seeing the Brewers and Rays being described as "teams who play the game the right way instead of just listening to computers" is further proof that analytics just means "things I don't like" and that people have somehow gotten dumber about this stuff over the last decade

The Yankees themselves are hitting .086/.145/.224 (6 wRC+) in the ALDS. They’re one of the five worst lineups in the majors this year since Judge left in June.

In the 25 most similar batted balls in the Statcast era: 24 were foul balls. Plus the one to Ty France

”Let‘s just model projected distance” They did this in the Home Run Derby in 2025 and I’m not sure anybody found this a satisfying resolution.

A graphic on ESPN showing Cal Raleigh beating Brent Rooker in the 2025 home run derby on a distance measured to 10 decimals.

The Brewers reaction seems to be “nuh uh wasn’t gonna be a homer” when it should be “nanana boo boo that’s our stadium, those are our ground rules, win more games if you don’t want to play there.“

Should add 451 total batted balls at those EV and LA, so making it 340 feet is already ~10% and a homer <1%, before considering whether that would have even wound up fair. But... it happens sometimes!

@swingsandtakes.comOct 4, 2026, 5:04 AM

I find an even 50 batted balls in the Statcast Era with: - 103-107 mph EV - 46-52 degree of launch - 340 feet projected distance Of those 11 homers, including three this year. Here's another in The Trop from Christian Encarnacion-Strand (105.7 mph, 47 degrees, 359 feet).

Heh, first thing I though of was this Joc Pederson home run from July 105.3 mph 48 degrees 347 feet

I have gone from steeling myself against the season ahead to being fully convinced the Kraken are top 3 in the Pac in the span of like 12 hours.
