@shireenahmed.bsky.socialThe HCIC collaboration with the PWHL has people telling on themselves. First it was terrible that it wasn't hockey and Canadian institutions are dying, blah blah. Now naysayers have come back to say that it's can't be wOmEn'S hOcKeY. Still very white and expensive - but not male.

@shireenahmed.bsky.socialI agree about the harm and I wrote that the responses from athletes were powerful. She's never had anything to do with sports. And we shouldn't give her that entry.
@shireenahmed.bsky.socialExactly. There are so many layers to this. It's essentially a money grab using sex and gambling to entice. Women’s sports are much more.
@shireenahmed.bsky.socialI had some thoughts about Sydney Sweeney and her recent commercial.
This entire debacle has made me see and hear the powerful voices of women in sport. But make me question why we take Sweeney seriously at all. My latest for CBC Sports

@shireenahmed.bsky.socialThe most stunning hypocrisy in football is from France. Dembélé will be celebrated and his wife will be featured in Vogue. But policy and law would never allow her to touch a pitch if she wanted because of their hijab ban in sports.
@shireenahmed.bsky.socialDon't worry, Canada! The 2027 Women's World Cup is next summer in Brazil and we will take all this passion and support dorect it to CanWNT ! We are a soccer nation and our duty, commitment and desire does not end here. It begins. ⚽️🇨🇦✨️
@shireenahmed.bsky.socialThe European empires of football are crumbling. This men's World Cup has brought us joy from the smallest of nations, lesser known players & African football fonallt getting the respect it deserves. Capitalism may sabotage the MWC, but the game will always belong to the people.
