Thanks Moira! Not sure how feeds work in general but even some of my own I have to refresh the screen to get up to date.

Parked the car ready for its MOT next to a Common Lime tree and discovered a colony of Firebugs, Pyrrhocoris apterus. Closest to home so far! πŸ€—

Last time I ventured the 5km down RSPB #LakenheathFen in spring last year this Native Black Poplar tree was much easier to see before surrounding trees had their leaves!

A gall of Aceria brachtarsus on a walnut leaf in north Suffolk, apparently a first for the county - first found in the UK in 2021, and only nine records on iRecord (from London-Leicester-Norwich)

Thanks Jeremy! Just the nightshades provided by Suffolk really. There’s loads of Black and Green growing together and I know there’s a hybrid but I’ve never knowingly found it.

Solanum nitidibaccatum, Green Nightshade, hairier than Black and with those dark red V shapes in the flowers. I see lots of it in the Suffolk Brecks in potato fields!

During 'Wildflower Hour' last night I saw that the feed was often lagging by 10 or more minutes whereas a search for the hashtag and selecting 'Latest' was updating by the second. Anyone else notice? πŸ€”

Plant paternity is tricky business. Eucalyptus, for eg, can reproduce with plants from related but different species to create successful seedlings, creating hybrids. Read about how researchers have been investigating plant parental histories. Read here: buff.ly/2G1VUjg

Eucalyptus accedens shown in two panels: left, a mature gum tree with pale, patchy trunk standing in a dry field under clear blue sky; right, close-up of a twig with clusters of green, rounded buds/fruits and lance-shaped leaves.

Very few records in @bsbibotany.bsky.social database for Shaggy Soldier, Galinsoga quadriradiata, from the #Suffolk #Brecks to date! It was growing in this field of carrots but on the sandy margin strip used by heavy irrigation equipment. πŸ€”

That's interesting. Looking at the @bsbibotany.bsky.social atlas it seems as though Dublin is the best place to find it! Quote: 'Curiously, it has spread very little in Ireland, where it was first recorded in 1980.'

Interesting to see Spiked Speedwell coming into bloom for a second time this year.

Bittersweet, Solanum dulcamara. Look out for the leaf mine of the micro moth Acrolepia autumnitella also known as the Bittersweet Fanner, the Bittersweet Smudge and the Speckled Bittersweet moth. The mine is a translucent blotch and the larva is whitish-green with a pale brown head.
