...them to keep kicking the can down the road on moving away from fossil fuels for wealth gains in the short term. The grants given currently aren't near enough and only serve upper-middle income households. We have the resources to transition everyone away from FF, just no political will.

The problem with carbon tax in Ireland is that it's one element of a feeble, languishing climate action non-strategy overall, and its implementation is not accompanied by a truly just transition away from fossil fuels. Opposition to carbon tax and division among the left suits gov agenda and allows

The point of the post is to highlight the dissonance between topic and image choice. Writing about the Super El Niño with a joyful image of people playing in the snow is like reporting on road fatalities with a photo of happy, smiling people in a car - entirely tone-deaf.

Eres completisto entonces! Mi camino de aprendizaje ha sido muy caótico y sin estructura. Acabé sacando el C1 y luego haciendo un Máster mediante español, pero desde haberme vuelto a Irlanda no he practicado tanto! Buena suerte con el aprendizaje! 🍀💃

Aprendes español? I loved Busuu and moved away from Duolingo as the site became slower and slower. Learning it from zero, the first few units gave me great functionality when I first moved to Spain.

@irishtimes.com IT just dropped their Winter Edition of climate reporting and imagery dissonance.

The Super El Niño will cause extreme weather, when more people than ever will struggle to heat their homes due to fossil dependency.

Celebrating this phenomenon is ignorant, harmful journalism.

The absolute gall of some people in leadership

Sparks flew on this week's Last Word on the Environment as I lambasted this govt's spineless u-turn on carbon taxes in #Budget2027 and its unforgivable backsliding on #climate, as the world literally burns.

"Mind-boggling that there's so much demand for cycling and yet such a lack of infrastructure to keep them safe", is what was said - in a parallel universe where we have leaders who actually listen to evidence and care about public health and safety. A girl can dream.

People need assistance during this fuel crisis, but this is not the way to do it.

Government has bowed to pressure from right wing lobbyists that chain us to fossil fuel dependence.

The debt for this will be paid in human health and wellbeing.

On National Poetry Day, here’s a short poem about the power of poetry to change the world.

The Power of Poetry

with things falling apart
and anarchy let loose,

it was only poetry, he found,
which had any use,

so he reached for his copy
of The Complete Works of Yeats

and bludgeoned the President
of the United States

New report uses publicly available data to explore data centre development & 'disproportionate drain on public resources' —
'Data centres may have consumed as much water in Ireland last year as about 340,600 homes, some 18.5% of total number of occupied dwellings'

This new tool, the Carbon Impacts Tracer, which translates carbon emissions into real-world climate impacts like heat exposure and coral bleaching, looks super useful.

Gavin Bazunu's statement on pulling out of tomorrow’s game against apartheid Israel. We salute him, he will go down in history for this, a legend. And we hope more of the players will take such a principled stand. There is still time for the FAI to do the right thing. #StopTheGames

This is the definition of cowardice. Taking backwards steps instead of adopting real, long term solutions - for fear of being held to ransom by the far right and some of the agri sector? Yes, these sectors should be supported. But not like this. There is no action towards real food security.

@orlaghgaynor.bsky.socialSep 24, 2026, 7:37 PM

Timely release coinciding with the "Be Emergency Prepared" leaflets - which give little useful info and mention nothing on our food security, actually!

Huge thanks to @thinkorswim.bsky.social for letting me run away with his brilliant vision of a Department of Food Security! 🌍🌽

Enjoy folks!!
