It should not take someone to die and a ghost bike to be placed to get safe bike infrastructure.

The @streets.boston.gov updated #HydeParkAve webpage says, “we will restore a four-lane cross-section with a modified design to maximize pedestrian safety and traffic calming benefits”??? There is no maximizing pedestrian safety without reducing the four-lane cross-section!

The mobility of children is simply not taken seriously or viewed as important. Something illustrative is how people will often say that kids "don't count" when you remind them that children and young teens are nondrivers who deserve the right to get around without cars.

I personally love that Ward 10 Democrats sent a letter asking for updates and a community meeting about this and other transit improvements to @mayorwu.boston.gov (twice), and all Mission Hill @bostoncitycouncil.bsky.social, plus @streets.boston.gov and got no response. 1/2

There's a reason why Somerville hasn't had a traffic death in 4 years. The city isn't perfect, but they've made a concerted effort to design many streets around people and not cars. You can still drive, but you're going to have to do so slowly and while paying attention.

Who cares about bus riders and safer streets anyways? /s

As a Somerville resident, I want to point out that part of this was the simple realization that the people who were most inconvenienced by this (and whined about it most vocally) don't live here. Once that came into focus a lot of these changes were pretty straightforward.

Cars Ruin Cities

At last night’s @fpnaboston.bsky.social meeting, BPD reported two (2) accidents involving a cyclist being struck by a motor vehicle in FP/ Seaport this past month.

That’s three (3) cyclists struck by cars/trucks in Southie 02210 including the incident below, apparently not recorded by BPD.

Will do! They are working on the building in front of the shop and the van cannot park at the loading dock. I will ask to find a better spot. Please report back once this is acceptable.

This is a really scary clip and a great example of how insufficient infrastructure and dangerous driving puts even the most experienced and prepared riders at risk

Riders 8 to 80ish braved the drizzle to commemorate the completion of the Broadway bike lanes. Schools, day cares, museums, and multiple neighborhoods now benefit from better pedestrian crossings, signage, and protected micromobility travel. Thank you to the many who spoke up over the years.

No shame in walking up the hill with your bike.

I saw some post on this app saying they didn't want to see ghost bikes in the city (in the sense that they should not be on public property) But these memorials, and others like them (Gracie Gancheva's on Sleeper Street) make the invisible cost of traffic violence, visible Thank you Peter & Galen
