PSA: when Trump, @MarshaBlackburn, @BrentTaylorTN and other Republicans mock “socialism” what they’re really mocking is the idea of caring about other people

My mind rambled through “black phoebe?” and even “leaden flycatcher?” (Seen once in Queensland) before I realized what it was. I’ve never seen one not flitting through branches before.

One thing I didn’t expect at all today was that, while invited over to a neighbour’s for a pre-Thanksgiving libation, I’d look out her window to see a black-throated blue warbler meticulously cleaning her trelliswork. Toronto, Cabbagetown neighbourhood.

#StillDoinCDs Jakko M. Jakszyk was the son of an Irish singer & unknown father, adopted early by a Polish couple in London. A career as an esteemed rock guitarist & songwriter didn’t sate an urge to find his bio-dad. “Son of Glen” (2025) is a musically fluent reveal of a never-met US airman.

A man (50s) and a woman (30s) dressed mainly in black (but the woman wears a patterned deep crimson top and has a pale blond bang in her long dyed-black hair) sit on a red divan with a purple throw pillow between them. This scene is set in a narrow room alcove filled with religious objects, mainly crucifixes, and family photos, along with some miscellaneous artworks and glass display casings.

I wish you in turn a magnificent Saturday! In terms of positive energy, an eastern phoebe was there to greet me this morning when I went out. (Photo from the Merlin app, which identified the bird by its call).

#StillDoinCDs Elham (Matin Elham on streaming sites) is an expat Persian singer recording out of the Iranian émigré stronghold (one hopes) of Reseda, California. 2003’s Hanouzam Dir Nashodeh (Never Too Late) starts with synth-pop, moves on to more trad pop & ends with Amr Diab banger Nour el Ain.

A 30-something Iranian guy is seen in half-turned profile in a black shirt so just his head & neck glow in the incident light.

#StillDoinCDs “Dark Side of the Moon,” something of a concept album about being driven mad by modern times, was a 1973 Pink Floyd epic that is the 3d biggest seller of all time. It’s also a personal favourite of mine ever since I heard bits as house music at an Applejack (early Trooper) concert.

Against a dark field, a beam of light enters a prism and breaks up into a rainbow.
