For the 80% of working-age Americans carrying consumer debt, half of every dollar gained since 2022 went straight to debt payments. And debt payments are growing 8 times faster than wages with no sign of slowing down. The full picture is more alarming: https://ow.ly/LYw350ZVYUY
Tuesday's Trumpeter Awards left us inspired. Standing in a room full of leaders, advocates, and partners who share a conviction that everyone deserves a voice and a fair shot leaves us hopeful and ready for what's next. Let's carry this momentum and collaboration forward!
Under Secretary Duffy, the DOT has issued zero fines, waived $25 million in penalties, dropped investigations into Southwest and Delta, rolled back hidden fee rules, and delayed disability protections. Guess who pays the price? Not the airlines. https://ow.ly/rS3c50ZVXsF #Duffy #DOT #Airlines
A Wisconsin McDonald's franchisee scheduled 23 minors outside legal hours and denied them required breaks. State officials recovered $17,000 in unpaid wages and ordered nearly $60,000 in penalties. Fast food is one of the most common places minors' labor rights get violated https://ow.ly/yjfg50ZTamK
CLC is proud to endorse the bipartisan Stop Child Labor Act from Senators Schatz & Young. With child labor violations at their highest level in two decades, this bill would raise penalties, add criminal consequences, and let victims sue employers who exploit them. More: https://ow.ly/pnFZ50ZTbho
For Kailash Satyarthi, compassion is not passive. It means moral responsibility for one another, and the courage to act on it. Honored to hear him speak and to co-host his DC visit with partners who are working to improve conditions for workers, children, and consumers.
Who is really making the products we buy? GoodWeave International CEO Jon Jacoby talks about how “hidden tiers” in supply chains leave workers vulnerable to exploitation.

A disclosure notice doesn't cure the unfairness. We urge the FTC to ban personalized pricing where disclosure can't protect consumers, bar uses that violate anti-discrimination law, reinforce FCRA rights, and drop language disclaiming its own authority to prohibit it.
Surveillance Pricing Protections Must Go Further.
The UC Berkeley Center for Consumer Law & Economic Justice and @nationalconsumers.bsky.social filed a comment for 27 nonprofits urging the FTC to go beyond requiring disclosure.

The Trump administration claims the recent fuel economy rollback will save you about $1,300 on a new car. Fake math. With gasoline costing $4.50 a gallon, consumers will pay almost $7,000 more in fuel costs. Read more: www.autoblog.com/news/trump-m...
CA just became the 18th state (plus DC), to fully ban child marriage, raising the legal age to 18. This is a win for #CA children, but the work is far from finished. More than 30 states still allow it. B/w 2000 & 2018, nearly 300K children were legally married in the U.S. https://ow.ly/qs3x50ZTCMW
The Trump administration's data just blew up its own talking point. By their own numbers, drivers will spend $1,624 more on gas over the life of a new car under the rolled-back fuel economy rules, more than the $1,300 they claim you'll "save" on the sticker price. www.usatoday.com/story/cars/s...
Leaders in Washington are focused on who pays for the AI boom. Electricity isn’t the only cost families can face. They shouldn’t have to pay avoidable health costs from added pollution either. Decisions about where data centers go and how they’re powered need to account for both.
If families shouldn't have to pay the electricity costs of AI data centers, they shouldn't pay the health costs either. NCL joined a coalition calling on the Trump admin to create a Data Center Health Protection Pledge, so pollution doesn't become another hidden cost. https://ow.ly/9oWP50ZT9Qv
How do you tell a legitimate direct-selling business from an illegal pyramid scheme?
"If distributor payouts are fueled primarily by recruiting new representatives and getting them to buy inventory, that's the hallmark of a pyramid scheme," says NCL's John Breyault. https://ow.ly/EZvx50ZTbG3
EPIC and consumer groups are urging the FTC to crack down on surveillance pricing, a practice in which companies charge different people different prices based on their personal data. Telling consumers it's happening isn't enough. The practice should be prohibited. epic.org/epic-and-con...
