Barcelona has a strong anarchist tradition.
For example, there's a cooperative internet provider called Som Connexió. You're not just a customer. You're also a co-owner, with a small but real say in how the business is run.
But the startup industry has no idea how to build trust yet. Silicon Valley culture is actually built on lying to achieve explosive growth. They’ll have to quickly learn from other fields how to have values that people can actually verify.
I think AI will automate founders too. AI labs will simply stop giving us access to their best models and use them to copy any business you build. The real value will be people’s trust and being niche enough to go where big companies can’t.
Rita Klubochkina added a great skill to my AV1 video format article: how to compress video for the web, better than LLMs do by default.
It comes from our long work optimizing video for the Evil Martians blog.
While working on a secure production deployment for Slow Reader, I documented all the methods we protect it from supply chain attacks.
It’s sad that far more critical systems are often protected worse than our reader.
The year every building in Barcelona was built.
You can see the city expanding beyond its walls in the 19th century.
How do passkeys work with end-to-end encryption?
Passkeys now support the PRF extension, which lets each credential derive pseudorandom bytes. You can use that output to derive encryption keys.
Added passkeys to Slow Reader because they make UX much simpler, especially with E2E encryption, where there’s no password recovery.
In the LLM era, criteria and UI taste matter most. Two passkey guides from @agektmr.com:
Cyrillic and the old Glagolitic script aren’t the only writing systems used by Slavs. Bosnians had their own Bosančica.
Browsers still don’t follow the spec for converting oklch() colors your screen can’t display into ones it can.

oklch.com now shows the difference, to show browser developers why this matters.

How to store encryption keys in a web app.
With XSS, code can read a key from memory. Better wrap it in a CryptoKey and store it in IndexedDB: it can encrypt/decrypt, but the key itself can’t be extracted.
That’s how I store the E2E key in Slow Reader:

Venus against the Moon, by Arnaud Mariat. Venus looks brighter because it’s closer to the Sun, and because its clouds are bright, while the Moon is roughly the color of asphalt.
I’m really glad Chinese creators have started translating their videos into English and posting them on international platforms.
This is a very professional video explaining what’s special about memory in modern AI chips.
Even Nano Stores got rewritten in Rust!

Seriously though, it’s an interesting experiment for connecting JS and Rust stores, for example, to speed up performance-critical parts when you’ve moved your app logic into Nano Stores.

Turn your website’s loading process into music.
Forbes sounds surprisingly good. You could loop it and work to it.
A great example of a website where someone clearly thought through every detail. We need more of that in the LLM era.
This Friday I will speak at The Geek Gathering in Croatia, Osijek
We're launching Chameleon components in October and have some rather pretty sliders and dials.
Of course, you can see this smooth `corner-shape: squircle` effect on the icon and buttons in my Slow Reader, but only in Chrome for now
