Your attribution is right, Rachel: it is called Castle Hill, and is known as such in the area. My point really was for the benefit of anyone seeing the picture ...it's an ancient site, but the tower, or 'castle', is a Victorian addition.

Great picture, Rachel. I hail from very near there and it isn't actually a castle - it's a tower that was constructed to celebrate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1899. It's built on the site of Bronze Age workings and it's visible from all over Huddersfield.

A fascinating piece about Philip Larkin at the Brynmor Jones Library.

Wonderful, moving homage to the value of books, Jonathan. Lovely, measured reading too.

I entirely agree, Rachel. He can be very droll, too, alongside the sadness. Thanks for the repost!

'Challis’ poems dealing with his relationship with fatherhood are among the finest of a universally compelling collection.’ – @stevewhitaker1.bsky.social, in the Yorkshire Times, on The Green Parcel. A wonderful close reading of John Challis's second collection.

The military bloat of the massive SUVs on the school run is getting ridiculous. You're there to take a child home for tea, not transport a pallet of shrinkwrapped banknotes through the fall of Basra.
