the first person who invents a protein powder that actually dissolves into the liquid you mix it with and doesn't just float in gross little clumps on top is going to be a trillionaire

Within 3 years of graduation, favor shifted to Sketch...then InVision, then Figma. Even if things had stayed Adobe-centric, XD didn't even exist when I was in undergrad (great, now I sound extra old 🙃). Tools come and go – but the fundamentals carry you through it. Equally true in design and dev.
When I was getting my graphic design BFA, my professors were adamant about "not teaching the programs" (Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, at that point), and instead focusing on design principles. I remember my classmates being mad about that, but time has ultimately proven the profs right
2026 be like: should developers code?
Some recent experiments with book construction and handpainted washi cover papers.
Generative art was a thing WAY before now. Artists and designers (myself included) have long written scripts that start from a deterministic base and add non-deterministic variables. The real difference is whose knowledge and labor the system is built from, the intention of the work, and consent

Happy 32nd birthday W3C .org! On October 1, 1994, Tim Berners-Lee founded an international organization called World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

"Front-end web developers have lived through a few cycles of this...sold as though improvements to developer experience would cause the reanimated corpse of Ronald Reagan himself to ask you for commit access to ship trickle-down improvements to user experience."
A joyous fat bear week to all 🐻
Artificial intelligence systems do not think, feel, want or understand. Avoid language that gives them human characteristics.
One of my favorite cases of someone being Wrong on the Internet was a very earnest, very confused vegan who was telling people how cruel honey is; and it eventually turned out they thought honey was made by putting bees in a centrifuge and spinning them around until they threw up.
A lovely read on creating your own space online (and a good reminder that my own website could probably use a little brushing up)
don't be nice.
“Let me make it clear: without people at the top of their game sharing their experience and knowledge—regardless of whatever ‘game changing’ technology is in place—we are pulling up the ladders and committing our industry to stagnation and death.”
📝 If you’re maximizing a bottle for throughput, I think you’ve misunderstood the bottle.
Probably the same for us humans.
Actually really love this as a policy. If you can get AI to work for / with you in a way that doesn't generate slop: hell yeah, go for it! Otherwise, no thanks – additional meat proxies not required.
