Wow. I have a lot of old bags.

Good post that gets into the futility I feel when I try to do something creative online anymore. I'm less and less motivated to do things like write a blog or build software tools. I've found myself without much of a creative community since 2020 [ā¦]

@jef I feel like having one site near DC well preserved is really important (just like awareness they were nuclear tipped). But around here (especially with housing development) Iām not optimistic.
@jef Are many of the SF sites still more or less intact? I think all the DC facilities are gone. Many are parks, the one I visited is apparently a Rivian service center. One radar site still has a couple towers and radomes, and a local astronomy club uses it for events.

Bring back þe letter þ. How can you þrow out þe only rune in your alphabet? Also bring back ư. But ưis time, except in very common words like þe which look nice þe oưer way round, don't treat ưem as interchangeable. Use ư for þe voiced one and þ for þe unvoiced one, like ưey do in Icelandic [ā¦]
@jef Iāve ridden that elevator! (Not sure if they still let visitors do that, or if I just had a very flexible docent). I was also surprised just how easy it is to slide the missiles back-and-forth on the rails.
I also spent some time exploring W-94 in Gaithersburg, MD, while it was abandoned [ā¦]

Also, this is probably still my all time favorite from Stephenson. Been too long since I read it.
I'm re-reading Anathem by Neal Stephenson (2008), and hit this fairly prescient passage. "Crap" (well-written but subtly false information) deliberately inserted by into the "reticulum" (Internet), with the goal of then being able to sell services to filter [ā¦]
INTERRUPTING COW!
@xabean And that makes sense, if you factor in shipping (which probably amounts to zero for the volume of returns they get, though maybe I selected an expensive return path), re-stocking, verifying the return can even *be* resold, etc...
Amazon is haggling now? I bought a pair of Thread/Matter controlled plugs, discovered I can't get them to work in Home Assistant, and went to return them. I'm 90% through the return process, and amazon makes this counter offer.
For my birthday, my brother-in-law gave me a 4992-digit hex number that, when used as a seed for Pythonās random number generator, makes it so that printing a sequence of ārandomā ASCII characters actually prints a birthday greeting. I find it rather amazing that this is possible! This is the [ā¦]
