The indy protest schwag at the MUSK premiere did not disappoint.
Over a year ago I met an Anthropic employee at a conference and at one point she mentioned that one of the things she was working on was whether or not it was cruel to ever turn off an AI model. I thought she was joking. She was not.
Over the past year, Anthropic has repeatedly flirted with the idea that its AI models could be conscious in some way. In February, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said on a podcast, “We don’t know if the models are conscious.”
Hey @joshtpm.bsky.social remember Alberto Gonzalez, the attorneys general firing scandal, and the dismantling of the DOJ honors program?
Maybe we hallucinated it.
How?!

I fixed your rancid butter problem but I'm not a miracle worker
There’s a paradox of entitlement where folks demand better service, response time, and customisation to their tastes from smaller rather than larger providers. That only really works when the price is higher and the volume is much lower for those providers. 1/6

Your periodic reminder that "the company ignored employees' warnings" very often just means "people discussed what to do and not everyone agreed." Having these conversations is good. Fearing that open discussion will lead to gotcha headlines is bad.
lol @bencollins.bsky.social I see you.
But I am re-reading LOTR and it’s just so good.
Omg this was a deep troll, people. Silicon Valley (the place, and I guess the show?) is just full of tech nerds making LOTR analogies/quotes/naming companies after parts of it. It’s core. Which btw Tolkien would hate because the man did not like allegory.
Incredible how, like vaccines and reading with phonics, we need to keep learning these lessons over and over again.

I can’t believe so many people did not recognize this as a troll.
Re-reading the Lord of the Rings. Do you think anyone has thought about AI like the ring of power?
Yup.
What a great question.
