For what it’s worth, I don’t use AI in any of my projects and I’m not planning to change that. I’ve added a prominent corner-flash popup about this to all my project homepages.
I’m pretty sure there is room for both AI and AI-free content out there. But for me… I handcraft. ✍️
Yep, he also used AI to extend my C64 Elite source into a “super-Elite”. It’s pretty inevitable if you put everything online like me. I’ve lost count of the number of AI versions of Elite people have knocked out. Lander and Revs too. I’m not removing my content, so this is the New Normal, I guess?
New: Four interactive guides for building 8-bit Elite from Bell and Braben’s original source disks… all in your browser
Covers the #BBCMicro, #Commodore64, #AppleII and 6502 co-pro versions of #Elite

Well, the talk was essentially that article, just with slides and the odd joke, all wrapped up in a pub. Glad you liked the article! 🙂
No, the talk wasn’t recorded, I’m afraid.
Join us in the pub (or online) on Monday 21st to chat with Mark about how he added two player duels to the original Elite. We will have a Beeb there so you can test your flying skills against others!

If you’re a fan of Revs, Geoff Crammond’s epic Formula 3 simulation for the #BBCMicro and #Commodore64, then this is absolute gold.
It’s a modern launcher for the original game, and it adds so much - upscaling, controller support, track mods, telemetry, race view…
It’s amazing. 👏
Hugh Jengine. Classic! 🤣
Wow, look at this - it’s Revs on the #BBCMicro with telemetry, a track view showing all the other drivers, and brand new tracks! What wizardry is this? 🤯
Well done @racesimcentral.net, this looks epic.
Wow! That’s amazing. Great job, it’s so good to see Revs getting some love.
Very cool! So, the million dollar question… what are you planning to do with it now? 😀
Oh wow, is someone making new tracks for Revs? That’s extremely cool. 😀 Do you have any more information you can share? Looks amazing…
That was where this whole project started! I’d always wanted to understand the split screen and I couldn’t find anything that explained it in a way I understood, so when I stumbled on @kieranhj.bsky.social’s buildable source code, that’s the bit I started analysing. I guess I just didn’t stop! 🤣
I hope you enjoy them; they were certainly fun to work on. And remember, it's now official: playing 8-bit Elite is academic research. Back to school, everyone! 😀

Two bona fide academic papers on #BBCMicro Elite have just been presented at the IEEE Conference on Games in Madrid

They're a great read! And free to download

Yeah, good old Teletext Elite. Definitely one of my favourite hacks! Still makes me smile every time I fire it up. 😀 Mode 7 for the win!
Yeah, on the Beeb the game’s name uses double height character 141 in teletext. A number that’s burned into my soul! No teletext on the Elk, so no double-height character 141, sadly.
And no double-height text either, as that’s a teletext thing. But it was still the Acornsoft loading screen, so you knew you were in for some high-quality gaming!
