Quick tips: aim to finish early and you'll probably land more like on time! Have modular scenes / encounters you can drop / add. Don't be frightened of telling the players if you (and they) need to push the pace. You're all in it together. Timing can come with practice, run more games 😁

To be fair our Graham, there hasn't been a strong drive to day use them. It's been more of gentle encouragement at the Garricons 😁 There is nothing in the FAQ that mentions them that I could see, that'd be one development opportunity. I did see my most people talk about safety at learning in my xp

With Shadowrun Anarchy 2e pdf out on general sale today, why not try before you buy? Or try after you buy, I'm not the cops. To see the game in action in a pacey one shot, check out the UGMs channel!

We're in The Future! A set of pregens should be available online, but they don't need to be in the hardcopy book. :) As a general rule. Things like Deadlands (using Savage Worlds toolkit system) had great archetypes - if you have a game where players can do what they want, some examples are nice.

Happy to have a look (assuming it's not War and Peace) and take it from there, old bean 🙂

It's probably a lot of things the pair of us discussed over many years. I suspect the writing is all his thought, I can't remember it. Should be good for a reread and see what I think now 😁

NPCs they riffed with, things they crew attached to, minor baddies that got away return with reinforcements, throwaway backstory gets a call back, aspirations have a chance of being achieved etc.

This is why it's worth having "bangs" as the indie kids call them, not scenes, but exciting things which can happen to spice things up. The secret sauce of sessions is reincorporation, where you bring back things the players came up with earlier to give a more satisfying conclusion.

I'd making clear when writing your book! 😁

Also at Furnace someone reported playing a game where the GM was telling them they were making the wrong choices, or where they could go in what order. Clearly controlling nonsense behaviour. Several games didn't run to time, which isn't great. Plan a shorter session if you regularly over-run.

@evilgaz.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 1:11 PM

I'd avoid saying you're creating a story at all, loaded language and implies it's up to the GM to control everything. Broadly good advice to have a strong opener, flexible scenes and what an ending show piece might look like. Play to find out and don't worry about slaying your darlings.

Manual fog of war ready for Furnace RPG con this weekend. What path will our bold adventurers take to Pteradon Peaks? Only time will tell! Stone Age Savage Worlds ready to - literally - rock.

I think I originally pitched having tags at Conception decades ago and am happy to see the idea has persisted. Short pointers can guide decisions without needing to be buried in sentences. PVP, Pirates, Undead, Treachery, Horror

@evilgaz.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 9:36 AM

"What is the dark secret behind the Pirate Queen's terrible sickness, and will our intrepid crew grab her treasure before they too succumb?" Heroquest used to have a thing where you created your character blurb in 100 words or fewer. This seems a great discipline to practice for pitches.

@evilgaz.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 9:36 AM

The pitch should be the core conceit if you want to sell it to the right people. e.g. is it jolly pirates having hijinks or murderous cutthroats fighting for their lives? Keep it relatively short and make it grabby. You can finish on a question.

Not sure about this new edition of Assassin's Creed after budget cuts

@evilgaz.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 7:32 AM

And as a fellow small content creator, can I echo the warmth you get from a new review, kind comment, Patreon support etc. which does keep you fuelled in the dark winter nights when you wonder if you're just shouting into the void. Every word of mouth passing on that your thing exists is golden.

@evilgaz.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 7:32 AM

It segues into the next bit of the 'cast though when you talk about seeking affirmation and so forth. I'm not going to retire on my writing, but when I sell on (often for a pittance) it makes me feel glad someone thought it worth the gamble. Even more so the thought they may enjoy it at the table.

@evilgaz.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 7:32 AM

Writing adventures for someone else to read and/or use is hard if you care about your craft. There is a metric tonne of stuff on Drivethru spurted out in a haphazard way, but to have something out there a put your name to it is tough if you genuinely care. I'm struggling to say I'd recommend it! 😅

@evilgaz.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 7:32 AM

These days I can't read books cover to cover (unless it's something like AGON), but am shocked and appalled they never went through the self-inflicted drudgery and torture of reading every word of a rule book. Yes, Earthdawn I read it all, even high level spells. Get that achievement unlocked!
