@badvertising.bsky.socialReposted by @fossilfreefootball.bsky.social🏆 That’s the Bad Sport Awards 2026. From fossil fuel sponsorships to sportswashing on an industrial scale, these deals show just how far the sports industry is willing to go to keep pollution looking normal. Read the full Bad Sport Awards. 👇
@badvertising.bsky.socialReposted by @fossilfreefootball.bsky.socialThe concerning ties between Gianni Infantino and Donald Trump came into the spotlight again recently when the brother of Trump's son-in-law was behind a controversial deal to privatise FIFA.
@badvertising.bsky.socialReposted by @fossilfreefootball.bsky.social🏆 THE ‘BAD AWARD’ AWARD: FIFA FIFA announced its own Peace Prize. Gianni Infantino then presented it himself at the World Cup draw. The recipient? The USA's war-hungry, climate-wrecking President. 😬
@badvertising.bsky.socialReposted by @fossilfreefootball.bsky.socialAnd Eni’s own emissions put that sponsorship in some perspective: Just a single year of Eni’s CO2 emissions could melt enough glacier ice to fill 2.5 MILLION Olympic swimming pools.
@badvertising.bsky.socialReposted by @fossilfreefootball.bsky.social🥇 THE ‘PODIUM POLLUTER’ AWARD: ENI But Eni hasn't disappeared - it was a major sponsor of a Winter Olympics at a time when snow sports has never had less snow. Yet research by New Weather found that the 2026 Winter Games contributed to the problem, generating 930,000 tonnes of CO2e.
@badvertising.bsky.socialReposted by @fossilfreefootball.bsky.socialAnd what's worse is that prior to Italy's deal with SOCAR, it was sponsored by ENI. Yes, ANOTHER major fossil fuel company.
@badvertising.bsky.socialReposted by @fossilfreefootball.bsky.social👕 THE ‘SHIRT OF SHAME’ AWARD: ITALIAN NATIONAL FOOTBALL The Italian Football Federation has gone back for a second helping of fossil money. It has signed a deal making SOCAR - Azerbaijan’s state oil company - the sponsor of Italy’s national teams from 2027 to 2030. 🤢
@badvertising.bsky.socialReposted by @fossilfreefootball.bsky.socialOur research estimates the deal will generate 34.7 million tonnes of CO2e through the emissions associated with its sponsorship impact.
That’s 83% of the total sponsorship impact from big polluters - and far more than the tournament’s direct operational emissions.
@badvertising.bsky.socialReposted by @fossilfreefootball.bsky.social🏆 BAD SPORT OF THE YEAR: FIFA FIFA sold its top sponsorship tier to Aramco — the world’s largest corporate emitter. According to Carbon Majors, Aramco was responsible for 4.28% of global CO2 emissions in 2024 - more than any other company. But the damage doesn’t stop there.
@badvertising.bsky.socialReposted by @fossilfreefootball.bsky.social🏆 The Bad Sport Awards 2026 are here. And this year’s winners have been making some truly spectacular contributions to the world of sportswashing. Here are the winners… 🧵

@caadcoalition.bsky.socialReposted by @fossilfreefootball.bsky.socialNew from @fossilfreefootball.bsky.social: Spurs’ BP sponsorship puts the club’s platform behind a fossil fuel giant.
@philippeauclair.bsky.socialReposted by @fossilfreefootball.bsky.social"Manchester City is run by, and in the interests of, the United Arab Emirates, a state whose appetite for conflict and violence is matched by its contempt for rules and norms."
New op-ed for @josimarfootball.bsky.social by @ncgeehan.bsky.social of reboot.fifa and @fairsqprojects.bsky.social.
@fairsqprojects.bsky.socialReposted by @fossilfreefootball.bsky.socialThe Norwegian Football Federation has submitted two parallel filings to FIFA concerning the FIFA Peace Prize, the Balogun affair, and the FIFA Forward Enterprise (“FFE”) project.
One addresses conduct of Gianni Infantino,
the other governance and process.

@fossilfreefootball.bsky.socialReposted by @fossilfreefootball.bsky.socialManCity will pay a massive fine for all its illegal behaviour funded by oil money. How about using that money for free solar panels and batteries for UK amateur clubs?

@fossilfreefootball.bsky.socialNo sorry, this was just the moment I realised I can't keep track of this anymore 😅

@frankhuisingh.bsky.socialReposted by @fossilfreefootball.bsky.socialFrench journalist Alexandre-Reza Kokabi asked Zinedine Zidane about climate impacts this summer and what football should do. Really good read!
