The American Economic Liberties Project is fighting to realize economic liberty for all, in support of a secure, inclusive democratic society.
David Ellison hired lobbyists and political operatives to help him kill the challenge against his Paramount-Warner Bros. merger. And it worked. Following a massive behind the scenes campaign, Newsom sided with Ellison over working Californians and pressured Bonta to drop it.
The Skydance CEOs now acknowledge that layoffs will in fact be coming after the Paramount-Warner Bros. Merger, per @variety.com.
🚨NEW legislation from @mayor.nyc.gov will codify Private Right of Action and empower New Yorkers to take companies to court for unfair & abusive practices.
"Allowing citizens to take a company to court themselves is a check on power that no lobbyist or budget cut can take away."
A Paramount-WBD merger will place two of the four major news archives that documentarians and journalists depend on under Ellison control — a move that could limit access to research, raise licensing fees, and increase the risk of censorship.

William D. Cohan's new book, Money to Burn, presents itself as the story of Wall Street billionaire and Epstein-confidant Leon Black.
But, as @helaineolen.bsky.social lays out, the book skips over Black's fueling of — and benefit from — the private equity takeover of American life.
"This merger is a lot bigger and broader than it may seem."
The Paramount-Warner Bros. merger would combine two of the largest legacy studios, dozens of cable channels, and two of the largest streamers. @bedoyausa.bsky.social discusses with Ryan Geddie
A new rule from the DOT will make it so airlines are no longer held responsible for a number of disruptions. @wjm-air.bsky.social on the impact: This is really going to hurt consumers because you’re going to be given fewer rights in terms of compensation through meals, hotels and things like that.
Happening today! Journalists interested in attended should reach out to [email protected] to RSVP.
Fire stations are paying more and waiting longer for new trucks. Why? A few big corporations bought up the fire truck industry and jacked up costs. That's not right. Corporate greed can't come before public safety.
DoorDash has ripped off more than 260,000 NYC delivery workers. We’re making them pay $131.5 million — the largest worker settlement in City history. This is New York, where hard work pays and greed will cost you.
Last-mile delivery companies make their drivers go so fast that they get in accidents, hurting themselves and pedestrians. This Thursday, @econliberties.bsky.social & Teamsters Local 804 will hold a roundtable with drivers, @tiffanycaban.bsky.social & @saalevine.bsky.social. RSVP for press is below.

This loss will be felt by the people who can least afford it. Everyday workers and small businesses will suffer because of this capitulation.
"Today, billionaires have yet again bribed, censored, and bullied their way to the top."

We've seen it before with past mergers: Promises made to merge, then abandoned or violated once they've gotten what they want. This one will be no different.
This news is deeply disappointing and a massive betrayal of everyday workers and small businesses. David Ellison is willing to make big promises, like 30 films a year, because he knows he doesn't actually have to stand by it.
Today, billionaires yet again bribed, censored, and bullied their way to the top. As a result, a billionaire media company closely allied with the president will soon own one of its closest rivals, including some of the nation’s critical news outlets. Saudi Arabia will co-own those outlets, too.
"The public doesn’t own this team. It doesn’t have a stake in this team... And yet, you are seeing literally billions of dollars — public dollars, taxpayer dollars — that could be used to pay for anything poured into this private infrastructure," says Pat Garofalo
