We cannot speak about global security and international cooperation without mentioning the climate crisis. If we want to safeguard our children and build a prosperous future for all, the govt must keep dirty fossil fuels in the ground.

Labour seems poised to repeat the mistakes of the last energy price crisis if they cut funding that would help families choose fossil-free heating. We cannot afford to plunge the sector into uncertainty and risk stalling growth in heat pump installations when we need it most.

Picture shows a graphic of Carla Denyer and a speech bubble that reads:

ā€œLabour seems poised to repeat the mistakes of the last energy price crisis if they cut the funding that would help families choose fossil free heating for their homes.Ā

We cannot afford to plunge the sector into uncertainty and risk stalling the growth in heat pump installations just when we need them most to meet our legally binding climate commitments.

Instead, Greens call for a local authority-led, street-by-street retrofit programme to insulate our homes and upgrade to cleaner heating that doesn't leave families exposed to volatile gas prices.ā€

Congratulations to Sagal. I wish her the very best in representing this amazing place. I'm proud of the campaign we fought. To go from 10% to 33% of the vote share during the PM's 'bounce' is good - but our ambitions are far higher.

Newly elected Greens doing great stuff on housing šŸ‘

Lewisham Council's new strategy includes:

šŸ¤ Zero-cost land to community-led orgs on condition they build social housing

šŸ” Putting that land into community land trusts, locking in affordability.

"Only the Green Party has the policies to address inequality, through taxes on wealth; tackle the cost of living crisis with rent controls and raising the minimum wage; and fight climate breakdown through a nationwide home insulation programme and turbocharging renewables" - @carladenyer.bsky.social

Conservatives: for billionaires, inequality, and environmental damage

Carla Denyer
MP for Bristol Central

ā€œToday Kemi Badenoch once again defined the Conservative Party as pro-billionaires, pro-inequality and pro-damaging the environment.ā€

ā€œHowever much money you throw at it, you cannot have national security without action on the climate crisis. You cannot make this country fairer while you continue to favour the super-wealthy over ordinary working people, and you will not help young people into work by removing worker protections and support.ā€

ā€œCutting inheritance tax, cutting welfare and reigniting a new round of austerity reminds us that this is a party working for the wealthy few, not the majority.ā€

Three years on, we remember the horrific events of October 7 and the wave of destruction in Gaza that has followed it. We call today, and every day, for an end to the violence, for peace and safety for all.

I am pleased with this evolution of our energy policy. Renewables remain our top priority. This isn’t about fast-tracking new nuclear, but about recognising that in a climate emergency we should be using all the existing infrastructure we have to move off fossil fuels.

To Jewish members of the Green Party: The motion proposers made clear in the debate that they have no intention for Jewish members to feel targeted for their beliefs or associations. So like Siân, if anyone does try to use it in this way, I will be there for you with my solidarity and support.

The ā€˜Zionism is Racism’ motion has passed at Green Party conference. While there are many parts of the motion I can agree with, there are some that I could not, so I did not vote for it. Here is a joint statement from the Green Party leadership team and all of us Green MPs:

Joint statement:

As Greens, we will always uphold universal human rights.
We will never tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment.
We will continue to stand in opposition to genocide, ethnic cleansing, apartheid and the illegal occupation.
We will continue to call out the heinous crimes of the Netanyahu government.
And we will continue to work to ensure that the Green Party is an anti-racist party in every way.
We know there is no conflict between supporting the rights of Palestinians and the rights of Jewish people.

It is totally unacceptable that ordinary people are forced to limit themselves and their life chances to try to keep up with sky-high rent payments. This system is fundamentally broken. This has to stop now.

@carladenyer.bsky.socialOct 2, 2026, 7:42 PM

The number of children and older people living in a private rented properties has increased substantially. Nearly 25% of children, up from just 8% in 2000. For over 65s it is forecast to reach over 2 million by 2040, up from 500,000 in 2022

@carladenyer.bsky.socialOct 2, 2026, 7:42 PM

Even if govt meets its 1.5mil homes target, analysis from the Office for Budget Responsibility estimates that under current government policy, increasing rents will cancel out all average wage growth until at least the end of the decade — meaning no improvement in affordability.

@carladenyer.bsky.socialOct 2, 2026, 7:42 PM

The Green Party are leading the way on ending unaffordable rents in this country. This is an issue I have pushed the government on every day that I’ve been an MP (and before!). I have found their empty words and half-measures wanting.

@carladenyer.bsky.socialOct 2, 2026, 7:25 PM

I'm so pleased Zack made a Fair Rents Guarantee a key part of his conference speech - keeping up pressure on govt on behalf of the millions of renters who have no choice but to transfer an unsustainable and growing proportion of their income straight into the bank accounts of landlords.
