I think @lou.gg was working on a extension to do something similar, and it would be interesting to coordinate that with this. I know there was talk about a lexicon for preferences, but idk if anyone did anything about it.

My undying legacy atmosphere legacy will be a photomontage of a goose in clogs holding a stroopwafel that I put together in 10m cause "ahah, wouldn't it be funny ifβ€”" Moral of the story: always take your memes seriously. You never know where they'll end up.

me: this is a normal amount of things to do, I don't need to cut down and take like a month off my very done guardian fairy, charging up some revelatory wind:

Went to a coffee shop this morning to (finally) write out my whole todo list (πŸ†) ...then a gust of wind sent my notepad pages flying down the sidewalk surely means nothing

Inside me there's 2 bus seats

Happy/sad bus meme with both sides saying "most users don't know about atproto"

It's one possible use case, but it's far from being the only one or the most impactful. In the long term, I think it will change how we communicate one. I'd say that "Twitter but different" is not where it'll shine. And we all have to be challenged to build new systems. It's a fuckton of work.

Agreed!!! Like... We're literally so early????? So so so early???? In such a rapidly-evolving era of technology???? This tech hasn't even begun to make its impact, its most impactful usage may not even have been found yet. Most likely it hasn't.

@essentialrandom.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 9:06 AM

Like I don't think people fully appreciate how profoundly meaningful this aspect of it is and what potential impact it has *especially as more things are built on it*. It's 370172910 different doors, all leading to the same place where we're building on top of each other's work and efforts.

@essentialrandom.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 9:00 AM

It's so much easier!!! You can have an interesting ATproto app coded in an afternoon!! And it's only getting easier. You have 47022810 different pathways into experiencing *SOME* ATP. And you may not ever choose to learn the rest and--gasp!!--it's all still meaningful??? Still useful???

@essentialrandom.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 8:54 AM

This is not "my protocol is holier than thou", but if you ask an AP-aware fediverse user to explain how instances work, they often have a hard time mapping the model out in practice. IME, AtProto-aware atmospherizens have an easier experience getting to a workable mental model of a PDS.

@essentialrandom.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 8:45 AM

People also pattern match with the fediverse as a model of "the technology's edges will scare the people away" when: 1) way more people have zero awareness of anything going on here technologically (v good!!) 2) protocol-aware users pathway to understanding ATP is waaay smoother than ActivityPub's

@essentialrandom.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 8:39 AM

People look at users who don't care and go "how are we going to do this if we can't get them interested" or "it's important we spend our limit time making sure they never have to get scared by tech" instead of looking at the folks here who already did the jump and ask: how do we get more *you*?

@essentialrandom.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 8:32 AM

We're surrounded by people who aren't tuned in into ~the protocols space~ getting to discover and understand(even imperfectly) parts of a system that users don't usually care about at all, and people are being made to worry because many others won't go down that road...when they don't have to.

@essentialrandom.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 8:26 AM

So many people super involved in the community who I had no idea didn't come in already knowing about the protocol.

@essentialrandom.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 10:18 PM

love that for you!!!
