One thing about puzzle design is that you have to maintain a consistent style and quality in order to build players' trust. That trust is important, because it affects how they view the entire game. So this gets a lot of your attention. But then sometimes you intentionally break it just for fun
It's bittersweet to see the final Gentoosday stream from Fyda. She's been doing Gentoo streams on most Tuesdays for over a year. She's already completed all puzzles and all Steam achievements, but has one final challenge remaining:
How long did you wait between applications? Were they for the same game?
Nope, just an automated reply with: "Thank you for your interest in gaining Nintendo Switch Access. Unfortunately, we were not able to approve your request."
I was denied :(
Congrats! Thanks for sharing ❤️🐧
Finally beat #GentooRescue! Very satisfying puzzle game, glad I finally got it after seeing it recommended in a few places. (Now to try clearing out some lingering Steam achievement challenges)
This month, I'll be making one pixel art doodle per day for #Inktober. I've never participated in one of these challenges before... and I could definitely use the practice.
I'll be posting them as replies in this thread, to try and keep things tidy. 🧵
Wait, artists have money!?
❤️🐧 Thank you!
Just the thought of individually art'ing each level terrifies me.
I'm artistically blind, but I think it looks great. I wish I could have half the skills (or more realistically, budget) to make my own games look like this.
Here's a shameless plug of my own sokobanish mishmash game that appears to quite a few similarities with OOTSS.
Okay, so I applied to get a Switch dev kit for Gentoo Rescue and whatever else in the future. *fingers crossed*
There weren't enough characters for the link in the main post:
Let me tell you about a huge open-world sokobanish puzzler from an award winning designer. It focuses on the combinatorial explosion of combining many simple mechanics, but it also goes deep with secrets and an open world of nested levels. It's 26% off on Steam for another day!
I'm in this post and I'm okay with it
Stephen's Sausage Roll
Meanwhile mathematicians are like "sure, I guess it is possible to duplicate a ball by just cutting it into pieces".
Shout out to Chomp Garden! This game wasn't on my radar at all, but I had a delightful time with it on stream the other day. Short and sweet sokoban-style game. 100% with all achievements in ~2.5 hours
