When a campaign to ban abortions in Missouri launched its first TV ad last month, the commercial made no mention of abortion. Instead, it focused entirely on the state’s transgender community. No paywall.

I dug into the recent stories that claim transgender inmates in Texas were forcibly detransitioned off hormones -- per a revised policy provided by TDCJ (after a PIR), adult transgender inmates can still get HRT. However, that policy still doesn't appear online and the agency isn't saying why:
(I believe there will be more in-person sessions in Montreal and Vancouver in the coming months, in addition to online trainings, so there will be plenty of opportunity to take the workshop if you're not in the GTA!)
Even if you think you know everything, I promise this get some of the stickier situation that arise in doing journalism today. It's useful for new reporters and seasoned veterans alike, and I'm so glad to see CAJ investing in getting more responsible trans journalism coverage in Canada.
Canadian journalists who want be better about covering trans people ...
This FREE workshop @transjournalists.org and @cajournalists.bsky.social is great (I would know, I helped develop it).

As a transgender woman, Channel Ferro Badell has spent her life fleeing discrimination, trafficking and abuse — first in Uruguay, where she was born, then in Argentina.
But few experiences compare to what she suffered during her time in ICE custody.

Before I started hormone therapy, I studied all the side effects and knew what to expect long before my first doctor’s appointment. But it wasn’t until I put my reporter hat on that I realized how much more there is beneath the surface. And it’s really cool.

I’m in @sfchronicle.com writing about how the last six weeks we’ve been talking about transgender women’s eligibility to play in the WNBA and women’s sports at large…without any input from trans women at all (gift link):
On the WNBA/violent extremism nexus.
Late last week, the HHS released a report claiming to show a link between "transgender ideology" and political violence.
Among other bizarre features of this unpublished, non-peer reviewed paper it included a grand total of 13 transgender people.
