This got nothing to do with user choice, and everything to do with increasing meta’s psychological profiles of their users as a revenue source

Just watched C4 Dispatches about Gaza and UK complicity. It's a hard watch, but essential.

Utterly disgusting, David Sermon is a war criminal and should rot in a cell somewhere. Utter scum.

Charlotte Church sang From the River to the Sea at a fundraising event for Palestinians and now all the usual people are screaming antisemitism and trying to cancel her. RT if you stand with Charlotte Church and Palestine.

I'm not surprised but I'm truly disgusted that this narrative of "dangerous fighting age men posing a threat to women and children" is genuinely doing the rounds on the media with almost no push back at all. This is 1930s level stuff.

City of Edinburgh Council decided the Wester Hermiston AI data centre doesn't need an environmental impact assessment. This 250MW development will sit near four local nature conservation sites, including Union Canal, and eight pockets of ancient woodland including Crow Wood. 👇️

NEW: Papers have now been filed for this case. But we still need support for the crowdfunding. Please do share and please donate.

Without financial support we won't be able to keep taking these cases.

A bit of balance??? Israel is an occupying force and is committing genocide, there is no confusion or question. The painfully slow legal process in the ICJ will take years, but it doesn't change the material facts of the situation. Why would anyone want to watch that?

In our new essay for the @financialtimes.com (you read that right), @astra.bsky.social and I link the extreme weather events we have all been living through to the rise of a new iteration of futureless fascism, wherein the rich and powerful plan for their bunkered survival behind fortressed borders.

Fascism: the sequel
In Europe and beyond, the far right is rising again but with crucial
difference. Naomi Klein and Astra Taylor on how nationalists, religious
fundamentalists and tech titans turned their backs on shared future
back in Europe, the US and well
beyond. Yet having just completed
book on the distinctive qualities of con-
temporary fascism, we find ourselves
uneasy with the linear historical com-
parisons. On the contrary, if we want to
understand the far right today, we
would do well to look beyond the rusted
relics and focus on the alarmingly desic-
cated state of the riverbed.

cies had only ever posed partial threat;
they only ever annihilated individual
entities: ‘only’ humans, ‘only’ cities,
‘only’ kingdoms, ‘only’ cultures but we
continued to be spared (if this ‘we’ is
understood humanity).”
Today there are no such guarantees,

amounts of climate-heating energy,
ushering in democracy-endangering
levels of concentrated wealth and rais-
ing the threat of rogue tech.
Thirty years ago, the Italian philoso-
pher and theorist Umberto Eco who
lived through reign in Italy
observed that fascism always has “an
Armageddon complex”, explaining that
“since enemies have to be defeated,
there must be final battle, after which
the movement will have control of the
world”. But as Anders understood, while
the violence that European fascists
inflicted on their internal out-groups
and external enemies was indeed apoc-
alyptic, they were not typically imagin-
ing the actual end of the world so much
as the destruction of particular parts of
it. Most foresaw future where the wars
came to an end and purified, wealthy,
stable national body emerged.
Importantly, that promise of stable

The Representation of the People Bill takes some steps in the right direction, but the lack of necessary action to root out dark money, foreign influence, and misinformation in UK politics makes it a huge missed opportunity overall- especially the outrageous decision to exclude any discussion of PR.

We don’t have to build data centres at this scale and pace. We can develop them in a way that works for communities, not against them.

Again, totally agreed. It's the amount of energy that is required and the speed it needs to be delivered. The same with water. I cannot see how we can get a government hell bent on profit at all costs to do anything close to the right thing

@tofueatingwokerat.bsky.socialAug 28, 2026, 10:33 AM

Totally agree with all your points Paul. AI can also fold proteins, cure diseases, solve mathematical problems, etc., so we do need sovereign systems in shifting international alliances. The existential dread comes from the knowledge it will be impossible to do this without trashing the environment

It's like Labour are trying to ensure Reform win the next election. No change from austerity, no hope, no future for the planet. No wonder so many people are struggling with their mental health.
