#NewBook announcement I am editing an anthology of Black Food writing
In the 1935 novel <It Can’t Happen Here> by Sinclair Lewis, demagogue presidential candidate Berzelius (Buzz) Windrip promises to provide every “real American family” $5,000 if he wins.
People get confused about the trans sports thing because at a glance it seems like a small issue that impacts a very small number of people and thus makes sense as a "reasonable" concession. But it isn't, because conceding that is accepting that a kid's trans identity is on some level fraudulent
In country after country the story is remarkably similar. The ascendant far right has succeeded in getting center-right and center-left parties to accept their issue frames, and no one to the left of the far right is making a compelling case for an alternative. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

“The angel appointed over the Mitzvah of blowing Shofar is also appointed over eating Chulent. So when Rosh Hashanah falls on Shabbos and we eat Chulent, there’s no need to blow the shofar...” – Said in the name of my great(×5)-grandfather, Rebbe Meir of Premishlan (1783–1850).
Just had to share it 🤷♀️ So this week, I expect all Chulent eaters to take the Chulent as seriously as they ould take shofar. It's tradition.
