“Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.”
― Albert Camus
Autumn art trio by Isaac Levitan.

A woman in period black dress walking along a tree-lined path in autumn.

A group of autumn trees, all in coppery colours.

Autumn trees, mostly in copper-brown, reflected in a pool or lake.

Dandelion Clock Paperweight
If wishes were dandelions I'd wish for one like this.
A constellation of miniature parachutes untouched by time and weather.
A chick's downy feathers - chirps frozen - in a glass prison.
An old man's corn silk static head of hair.
The toothless ghost of a flower with no fierce jolt of yellow petals.
A paused atomic bomb minus fallout or nuclear winter.
A stopped clock.

'Poppies in October', by Sylvia Plath. I only wish I could write like this.

Poppies in October by Sylvia Plath

Even the sun-clouds this morning cannot manage such skirts.
Nor the woman in the ambulance
Whose red heart blooms through her coat so astoundingly —

A gift, a love gift
Utterly unasked for
By a sky

Palely and flamily
Igniting its carbon monoxides, by eyes
Dulled to a halt under bowlers.

O my God, what am I
That these late mouths should cry open
In a forest of frost, in a dawn of cornflowers.

Image of poppies in a field, blue sky and clouds.

Yipee, I've just found out that Contemplation of Roses has been made Book of the Month for October at the Poetry Kit - wonderful news since apparently the competition was stiff (scroll down below):
