2/ However, we caution that many perpetrators remain in positions of power in #Venezuela and must also be held to account. Justice for victims requires full, impartial investigations and accountability at every level.

1/ We welcome the new torture charges brought by NY federal prosecutors against Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores. These charges, which include torturing political opponents and U.S. citizens, are an important step toward accountability.
3/ “We’ve had clients who have been beaten & permanently disabled by [guard] takedowns. They’re using an indiscriminate amount of force,” said our Sr. Staff Attorney, Sarah Decker. Camila and the other women trapped in detention deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Read their stories ⬆️.
2/ The abuses at this ICE detention center have been well documented. In our 2024 report, we detail rampant physical abuse, sexual harassment and assault, contaminated food, filthy cells, and the use of solitary confinement as retaliation.
1/ Transgender people in ICE custody are routinely physically abused, humiliated through invasive searches, medically neglected, and thrown into prolonged solitary confinement. One of our clients, Camila Toro de Paula, has been trapped in these conditions in Jena, Louisiana, for over a year.
3/ Standing with workers and demanding justice has been at the heart of Kerry’s work for decades. As we enter Kerry’s final months as our President, we’ll be looking back at the people and places that have shaped her extraordinary legacy.

2/ This was one of many times Kerry has stood alongside farmworkers. She has marched with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers in Florida, rallied for farmworkers’ rights in New York, and helped build support for the New York Farmworkers Fair Labor Practices Act, which became law in 2019.
1/ In 2013, our President @kerrykennedy.bsky.social joined @immokaleeworkers.bsky.social and other human rights leaders outside Wendy’s shareholder meeting in Manhattan to demand it joins the Fair Food Program, an initiative working to ensure humane working conditions and fair pay for farmworkers.
1/ Human rights work has been my life’s work. It has shaped who I am, introduced me to some of the most courageous people I have ever known, and given me a profound sense of purpose. I’m so very grateful for everyone who has been part of this journey.
2/ After decades of leading @kennedyhrc.bsky.social, I’ve decided it is time for a new chapter. Stepping down will allow me to devote more time to my faith, while continuing to support the work and mission I believe in so deeply.
The work continues. ❤️

2/ My parents taught me to respect the dignity of every human being. That is the ethos behind our work at Kennedy Human Rights. I’m deeply grateful for everything we’ve built together and for the human rights defenders whose courage has continued to inspire me every step of the way.
3/ As I step into this next chapter, I will remain on the Board of KHRC and serve as President Emeritus. The future of the human rights movement is in extraordinary hands. Congratulations, Marielena! Onward! More information ⬇️.
"We have had a great deal of talk in this country in the past one hundred years about equality. Deeds, not talk, are what is needed." - Senator Robert F. Kennedy.
4/ As we enter Kerry's final four months as our President, we’ll be looking back at the people, places, and moments that have shaped her extraordinary legacy.

3/ “I’ve been working in solidarity with the Haitian community since 1977,” Kerry said. “What I have witnessed in Del Rio is yet one more extension of decades of racist U.S. policy.” That pattern continues to this day.
2/ Five years later, the Trump admin revoked Temporary Protected Status for some 350,000 Haitians who had been living and working legally in the U.S. overnight. This comes as the State Department continues to designate Haiti a Level 4 “Do Not Travel” country.
1/ In 2021, our President @kerrykennedy.bsky.social and a KHRC delegation traveled to Del Rio, Texas, to join Guerline Jozef and @haitianbridge.bsky.social to document the conditions and treatment of Haitian asylum seekers at the U.S.-Mexico border.
