Yesterday on the campaign trail, I drove 178 miles and stopped three times to talk to voters. Your Congressman Ben Cline was in Napa Valley drinking wine, eating food and hobnobbing and data-center plotting with lobbyists and campaign contributors. He’s with them. I’m with YOU.

Beth Macy spent her career listening to overlooked communities. Shenandoah and Rockingham Democrats spent years organizing in them. My new Countdown follows the people behind her VA-06 campaign. davidphelps2015.substack.com/p/countdown-...

Wow, that sounds like it was quite an event; hopefully raised 100s of 1000s of $$$ (or more) for these great Virginia Democratic candidates! bluevirginia.us/2026/10/frid...

ROANOKE — Beth Macy, candidate for Virginia’s 6th Congressional District, has scheduled two additional town halls where the public has the opportunity to engage and ask questions of their future U.S. House representative.

Oct. 14: Healthcare Town Hall

Historic Masonic Theatre

(The Underground Lounge and Cafe)

510 Main St.

Clifton Forge, VA 24422

6:30 to 8 p.m.

Oct. 15: Data Center Town Hall

Lord Botetourt High School Auditorium

1435 Roanoke Road

Daleville, VA 24083

6:30 to 8 p.m.

From the beginning of her campaign, Macy has pledged to talk to all residents of the 6th Congressional District, regardless of their political affiliation. Since the summer, she has held 8 town halls or listening sessions, all open to the public, in locations across the district. She’s heard from military veterans denied benefits, DOGE-affected federal employees, stressed-out farmers, neighbors of planned data centers and transmission lines and everyday families turning to food pantries for their grocery staples.

“Affordability. Transparency. Respect. I will fight for my constituents on all of these fronts,” Macy said. “And I will always make time to listen and to learn from them.”

Her opponent, Ben Cline, has repeatedly stated he would conduct town halls — a promise he has yet to fulfill. As recently as May, he told Charlottesville’s News29 that he would conduct 22 town halls with his constitutents. Yet his interactions with residents of the 6th since then have not been open to the public or widely advertised.

“Have you seen Ben ‘in the wild?’ He stays in his ‘safe’ zone because he knows his constituents are fed up with him being a Trump lap dog,” Macy said. “They are outraged by politicians who duck their obligation to meet with the people who pay their salary — taxpayers!

“I will meet with anyone and not play favorites. Red, blue, who cares? As your representative, I will sit down and hear you out, always.”

ROANOKE — Beth Macy, Democratic candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in Virginia’s 6th District, announced today that her campaign raised more than $1 million during the third quarter of 2026.

Since launching her campaign in November 2025, Beth Macy for Congress has received $2.6 million from 25,000 individual donations. None of that money comes from corporate PACs, and 75 percent of donations are under $100 each.

“I am grateful to the people who have contributed their hard-earned money to my campaign to flip the 6th District,” Macy said. “These contributions mean so much more than just dollars, although the dollars certainly help. They represent real people who are hungering for change and who believe that a better future for all Americans is near.

“We have all the momentum running down the stretch. We have the belief, the drive and the support to win this election.”

In recent days, Macy has been featured in conservative writer Tim Miller’s column, “More Democrats Who Can Win Red America” for The Bulwark, and the DCCC added the 6th District to its list of “Districts in Play.”

Virginia was hit hard by DOGE firings that affected the whole Commonwealth’s economy, not just the D.C. suburbs. Keep your eye on this one as an indicator of how big the blue wave actually is.

The Shenandoah Valley–centered district has some college towns and artsy progressive pockets and is generally less rural than its redder southwestern neighbor (the 9th).

Tim’s Rationale: Virginia’s 1st, 2nd, and 5th districts are more obvious pickup opportunities with plenty of support from national Democrats. But Virginia Dem insiders tell me VA-06 is the sneaky one to watch.

Unsurprisingly, he was in favor of Trump’s attempted coup.

Incumbent Republican Ben Cline is a member of the House Freedom Caucus, and a 2024 analysis by FiveThirtyEight placed Cline in the same “quiet caucus” of “Far-Right Obstructionists” as MTG, Lauren Boebert, and Jim Jordan.

Despite being a memoirist with ties to Appalachia, she balks at any association with JD Vance, which is automatically appealing to me, obviously.

My Mom always said I was the sneaky one to watch. 😉 Thanks to Tim Miller of The Bulwark for moving my race to his list of Dems Who Can Win Red America. Here's the rundown from The Bulwark:

“And now he ignores the good people of Clifton Forge and the Alleghany Highlands. “I will keep my word, and I look forward to meeting folks in Clifton Forge on Oct. 14.”

@bethmacy.bsky.socialSep 30, 2026, 5:35 PM

“And in Roanoke, he has not met with constituents who have gathered outside his office every Monday for 88 straight weeks, through heat, rain, wind and sleet. Not even a wave or a hello.

@bethmacy.bsky.socialSep 30, 2026, 5:35 PM

“With 35 days to go before Election Day, the congressman sure is going to be busy with town hall appearances. Let us know if you see a rare Ben Cline sighting in the wild!
