Fake cobwebs like these may look spooky – but what's really scary about them is that they can trap & injure wildlife, including birds, insects & small mammals. And fake webs aren't recyclable – so will end up in landfill for many years.

We're in a race against time to save fungi.

Around 2.5 million fungal species exist worldwide, but most remain unidentified. At the current rate of discovery, it could take 1,000 years to uncover the unknown.

And preserve a very strong cultural connection to the phrenology of autumn. Visiting an orchard is a connection to our shared past. And it’s fun!

Got space for a pond? 100,000s of UK ponds have been filled in over recent decades. Even a small pond in your garden could help wildlife including frogs, toads, water boatmen, damselflies, dragonflies, insects, swallows, swifts, hedgehogs, bats & foxes 🐸

Great to see Ardtornish Estate using livestock grazing to restore #ScotlandsRainforest. It needs the right level of grazing to develop a varied woodland structure & create space for bryophytes & lichens. Being able to adjust grazing levels is important too. Turns out we don’t have to invoke weapons of mass destruction when talking about ocean heat uptake. The ocean absorbed a record-breaking 23 zettajoules of heat last year, equivalent to 40 times the energy used by humanity. It’s not going to end well.

We use anything cut off trees and shrubs to create a dead hedge between mature trees on one side of our property. It's too shaded for things to grow well but the dead hedge provides shelter for wildlife and stops the dog disappearing into the field next door.

Choosing peat-free compost helps protect peatlands. These precious landscapes can support a multitude of plants and animals, store carbon, reduce flooding, and improve water quality. They need protecting and restoring in a big way.

Most gardens have the space for a dead hedge. Simply pile up leaves. tree and shrub cuttings. It provides winter hibernation for many species, hedgehog ,slow worm and small mammal habitat and safety from cats. Wrens , robins and even blackbirds will nest in larger ones.

We planted a 14 tree community orchard in our village 3 years ago - it is doing well. Old traditional varieties - its a lovely place to sit for a while. Pic is at planting time.

The UK has dug up many of its orchards and now imports 70% of its apples, often from across the world. Planting apple trees in our gardens and community spaces - and protecting those we already have - can cut food miles, soak up CO2, benefit wildlife, and help save traditional apple varieties🍎
