(He/Him) I’m a big fan of video games, video game history, and anime. Currently spending my spare time working on trying to find all of the digital pinball games released for consoles and handhelds. And playing Wacca. I love Wacca.

When I think about our anniversary, I think...
New Ghostbusters II, 1990 (EU), Hal Laboratory for NES
16 years ago, @itatton.bsky.social and I got married. On our honeymoon, we drove to Canada. While exploring Toronto, we visited A&C Games (acgamesonline.com).
Picked up this gem!
#RandomGameSaturday

New Ghostbusters II cart for the European NES beside the box.
The cover art has the Ghostbusters in their grey GBII outfits, with Winston and Egon equipped with Slime Blowers. Behind them is the GBII logo, with the ghost giving 2 ghostly fingers up and a jolly little wink. The Ghostbusters II logo is above the action, outlined in neon blue, with a lame little white NEW in a red seal above the start of the logo.
The box is that with a black background.
It did earn the golden Official Nintendo Seal of Quality.It me! in A & C Games, circa 2010. It is a narrow game store packed with amazing game goodness. The walls are covered, and there are glass showcases filled. There is a dude whose name escapes me at the cash register.

It’s nice to sometimes get the good parts of cyberpunk. (At Blink in Cincinnati) The most cyberpunk moment was when a Duke Energy logo came up on the side of the Music Hall and the whole crowd booed.

The music hall lit up in neon colors. The Kroger building with a VHS tape neon pattern. A crystal light up unicorn head sculpture. The corner of a building with an exploding sun.

First you draw a circle... And then you launch the devouring swarm of one at high speed in a pinball table. One of the GB games that really benefits from getting the SGB treatment. 'tis a bit hard to see the ball in motion on the DMG screen. 📺: Kirby's Pinball Land, HAL Laboratory, 1993

I finally got to meet the girl I drew.

It’s truly an honor to see her here, and I’m incredibly grateful to Nintendo for giving her a place in this world.

this however is beautiful, we all love Vibri

a large amount of text from the same article about the concept of the rabbit vibri and her design - extracted quote "She always created backstories for her characters, and she explained to me very early on the concept of the "charm point" of a person or a character. This is an extremely important focus in Kiri's work. Notice how Vibri's eyes are so detailed compared to the rest [of her], and how they persist through her incarnations, except when she is sleeping or looking inward — but even then, you can imagine those eyes are focused inward planning, building her energy, or dreaming. In NanaOn-Sha's work the character's inner drive always shines through. To quote Parappa, "You gotta believe!""

Depending on the size of the boxes, comic book boxes are great for packing or moving games/movies. They pack neatly, they’re designed to hold weight, and they’re built for stacking. I like short boxes because they are easy to pile into a car or van and the size also limits the weight for carrying.

That’s a great point. The one screenshot doesn’t show the CCs that precede this. There might be several different CCs communicating those important details. The subs don’t provide any of that context. Thanks so much for sharing things like this. I always learn a lot from your detailed explanations.

@itatton.bsky.socialOct 4, 2026, 3:56 AM

I’m curious if there are situations where it’s OK to break style guide / standards if the closed captions could hinder or impede the viewer’s experience. Or is the answer here that someone who depends on closed captioning should turn it off to see the text behind it, and turn it back on afterwards?

@itatton.bsky.socialOct 4, 2026, 3:51 AM

Dumb question. Would it be appropriate to omit the CC in this instance and fall back to the subs that have the Japanese lyrics and English translation? Does the use of italics in the subs telegraph enough context that someone who depends on closed captioning can know this is singing a song?

They’d tell us exactly which trains to take and what stop to get off. By the time we’d go to say thank you they’d be 20 feet away and walking as if they had never stopped. This happened several times. I think the people there are nice. They’re busy and direct in a way that’s often misunderstood.

I had a similar impression before my first trip to NYC. My friends and I went to see Puffy AmiYumi there in 2002. None of us had been before so we weren’t familiar with the subway lines. We never looked at a subway map for long before someone would stop to ask us where we were going.

today's hardware designers could never conceive of what Kazuo Kawasaki was doing in 1996

A colorful retro computer setup featuring a purple keyboard, a small teal touchpad, and a teal circular CD-ROM drive with a matching keypad-style controller resting on top. The hardware is arranged against a dark background in a vivid purple-and-turquoise color scheme.

Thanks so much for taking the time to take and share these pictures of the shops you’ve been visiting. I’ve gotten a ton of joy seeing all the neat things you’re finding.

Looking at a lot of the comments across different threads, it seems like there’s lots of nonsense around which titles people are choosing and a bunch of people being using that to be butts for no reason.

@itatton.bsky.socialSep 29, 2026, 11:09 PM

This seems hard with a generational divide. Back in the 90’s, there were often huge delays between when a show was airing in Japan and when it got localized, so fandoms formed around the Japanese title. Now that shows commonly release around the same time, it’s easier to use the localized title.

I set a goal for getting a Safe Cracker magic token from here today. The last game I played was the closest I got. 4 or 5 trips to the vault and I couldn’t make it to the safe. I can’t believe how many 1s I rolled. Maybe next time I’ll be able to pull it off at least once.
