The recording of our webinar “Homelessness in Charlottesville: What’s the plan” is now available to watch on our YouTube page.

This was an informative conversation we hope provides a better understanding of local homelessness and the emergency shelter on Holiday Drive.

Charlottesville, Albemarle County, and UVA can make significant strides towards making homelessness in our area rare, brief, and non-recurring, but only if they prioritize making housing common, affordable, and accessible.

A harrowing story from @bench.bsky.social, Charlottesville’s Transportation Planning Manager, about being hit by a car on a city street while biking.

We are grateful Ben wasn’t severely injured and hope he heels quickly.

And we hope that city streets will quickly be made safe for everyone.

One of the key lessons from Dutch cycling history is cities didn't start with protected lanes. They began by making streets safer, calmer and more inviting; with lower speeds, parking restrictions, traffic filters and reduced through-traffic to create an environment in which cycling could flourish.🧵

Going to be a beautiful evening!

@livablecville.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 5:08 PM

We love to see it! And we would love to see more of it, which will happen when we start designing our community’s transportation system for everyone, not just drivers.

@livablecville.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 9:18 PM

We are confident that hundreds if not thousands of people will start biking regularly in Charlottesville as soon as protected bike lanes are installed across the city

We are very happy to see CAT’s 7 route will be moving to 15 minute frequency soon!

We're starting our crosstown bike bus pilot (pilot!) officially tomorrow. Look for me out there in a bright yellow shirt, riding back and forth in the W Main corridor.

For good reason, people focus on detached single family exclusionary zoning as being really bad. But it went hand in hand with pushing neighborhood scale commercial uses out of residential areas, creating car dependency, furthering segregation, and making vast swaths of development pretty crappy.

Walking around the residential neighborhoods of greater Charlottesville, it is frustrating how far it's necessary to walk to find a store. In some newer quasi-new-urbanist developments, their absence is striking. Everybody is worse off for this zoning prohibition.
