I’m glad you are figuring it out. A quick formula is 1 - (0.70^n), where n is the number of dice. ^ means to the power of. Basically, you calculate the odds of all failure and subtract that from 100%. That gives the change of succeeding at least once.

No worries. I’m just being prudent for any potential « followers » of the Orange Catholic Bible. :)

I’m aware of anydice & looked at it but haven’t learned to program oit yet.
Also, since @tezrak.bsky.social was hesitant over trusting a machine’s answer, I was hesitant to send him towards a different machine to help him. That’s why I went towards the show my work approach.

I know you figured it our through looking at all possibilities. Still wanted to comment on this specific situation. You’ll roll 8-10 on the first die 30% of the time. So 70% of the time, you’ll have to roll the 2nd die which will get 8-10 30% of the time. 30% of 70% is 21%. 30+21 = 51%

4) ldf & rdf (0.7 * 0.7 = 0.49) Possibility 1. 2 & 3 have at least 1 success (8-10). 0.21 + 0.21 + 0.09 = 0.51.

@ericmpaq.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 1:53 PM

They are independant but you are looking for at least one result of 8-10. So we have left die (ld) & right die (rd). Each die can be success (s) or failure (f). You have 4 possibilities: 1) lds & rdf (0.3 * 0.7 = 0.21) 2) ldf & rds (0.7 * 0.3 = 0.21) 3) lds & rds (0.3 * 0.3 = 0.09)

@ericmpaq.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 1:29 PM

For one d10, you are correct but the statement was for two d10. To get at least 1 die to get 8-10 among the 2 dice is 51% Basically, you have 70% of each die to not roll 8-10. 0.70 * 0.70 = 0.49. So 49% of not rolling 8-10 and thus 1 - 0.49 = 0.51. I didn’t need AI.

Which game(s) would be best used to emulate the Rocketeer in the comics?

@ericmpaq.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 3:37 PM

It’s a public library with rooms to play games and you can borrow games to play at home.

Maybe that’s their plan? Pinkertons find pre-released MtG cards in possession of WotC union member.

Are you thinking about their use against organized labor during the late 19th and early 20th centuries?

Did you know you only need a small brain to make silly little drawings?

4 panel comic:
Panel 1: pink blob guy on a table, pencil in their hands. Grey circle on a piece of paper and a glass of water on the table. They say “look here”
Panel 2: Proudly, they hold up the drawing of a grey blobby character on two stick legs up in the air. The pink blob says “I drew this!”
Panel 3: Satisfied they sit back down on the table. They now go “it’s not much, but..” The grey drawing looks a bit peeved because the drawer is calling it “not much”
Panel 4: But it’s okay, because now the pink blob is very pleased finally. He says “it came from my brain!” Holding the pencil up. The grey drawing blob is happy again, too. End well, all well!

Since you are posting now, I see you didn’t accept Blue sky’s statement on your existence. Good job asserting your existence!

While some purists restrict the "OSR" label to games emulating OD&D and/or Mentzer Basic, others consider anything from the hobby's first decade fair game; thus, having first been published only six years after OD&D, under the broader definition you could technically write an OSR game based on this:

The cover of "Dallas: The Television Roleplaying Game", a licensed RPG based on the 1978 American prime time soap opera of the same name. The cover depicts Larry Hagman in the role of J R Ewing, dressed in a business suit and a large cowboy hat, surrounded by inset photos of the remainder of the show's principal cast. The cover's promotional blurb reads "All the drama and power, the wheeling and dealing, the loves and lives of TV's greatest family are yours to enact in this fun-filled, fast-playing game."

Another video some folks here might spot themselves in!

A recommendations list thinking about what solo TTRPGs can offer to newcomers, and what games are accessible and representative starting points.

Hope someone finds it useful! Or at least interesting.
