@abigailnussbaum.bsky.socialReposted by @simonroy.bsky.socialThe Great Tolkien Reread meets "The Uruk-Hai", our first close-up view of Orcs (and our first Merry and Pippin POV chapter). This is an opportunity to talk about how Tolkien humanizes his most problematic invention, and where he stops short. wrongquestions.blogspot.com/2026/10/the-...

Petition calling for a ban on octopus farming and to prevent the expansion of carnivorous aquaculture. Farming octopuses is both cruel and harmful for the environment. They belong in the open ocean. bit.ly/OctopusFarming- #KeepThemWild

@simonroy.bsky.socialBig news- after 24+ hours constipated with a little piece of grass sticking out of her bum, my poor little cat has pooped! The towering spectre of incredible vet bills and feline suffering has been vanquished!!

@therex55213.bsky.socialReposted by @simonroy.bsky.socialApparently there's more to the story than even I knew. Kirby did art for a movie adaptation that never got made, and that art was later used by the CIA as part of the Canadian Caper. What.

@simonroy.bsky.socialAnd likewise - I’ve only read lords of light
@simonroy.bsky.socialIf so I’d love to see it! (I’m not enough of a Kirby head to know tbh)
@simonroy.bsky.socialOne author of similar impact for me was rosemary sutcliffe- her Bronze Age boys adventure “warrior scarlet” exploded my brain, and I’ve still to read anything else by her! I can only imagine her Roman era books rule as well
@simonroy.bsky.socialReposted by @simonroy.bsky.socialBooks unearthed whilst moving - this is a marvellous surreal piece of posthuman action adventure, a society of immortal Hindu inspired space colonists who eventually ascent to godhood. It gets a bit too superhero at the end, but most of this book fucking whips
@simonroy.bsky.socialHonestly chicken little hangs in my brain all the time
