I also wanted to share a recent @ejpgjournal.bsky.social article on the weaponization of the family in Turkey by @eakgemci.bsky.social that might be especially helpful now doi.org/10.1332/2515...
For those who missed @isanet.bsky.social's excellent expert panel on the crackdown targeting queer life in Turkey, you can find the link here: youtube.com/watch?v=nNV_ujWY1so&feature=youtu.be.
A few things (international) commentatoes should remember. Only 2 million people live in Sachsen-Anhalt. Half of Berlin, a tenth of NRW. Around 400k will vote AfD. Even with this strong result, 80% of people living in S-A will not have voted for the AfD. In a state that is a far-right stronghold.
Looking forward to receive submissions for the DVPW General conference taking place in Leipzig 2027 and its panel "Marginalized Voices, Political Choices: Minority Attitudes and Behaviour, and Party Competition over Minorities". Submissions until October 31st. Feel free to share!
Excited to present work with @payoub.bsky.social at APSA in Boston. We study a real-world disinformation event in which a Swedish far-right organization abused the visual identity of Swedish LGBTQ+ civil-society organizations to make it appear as though they support the legalization of paedophilia.
We're thrilled to pass the EJPG to @maarja.bsky.social and @grahn.bsky.social's fantastic new team. Taking on a journal is an enormous act of volunteer service to our gender & politics community. We are deeply grateful—and so excited to see the new voices, conversations, and directions they bring.
Together, we read bold new scholarship, supported authors and reviewers, and helped build a broader home for gender and LGBTQI politics. We describe our process and editorship in our farewell editorial.
As @jennpiscopo.bsky.social and I close our term editing
@ejpgjournal.bsky.social, we reflect here on what an extraordinary honor it has been to help steward this special—and thriving—journal alongside our associate editors.
Barely processing the pain of yet another visible act of violence (alongside all the other acts that go unseen to the outside), while immediately also having to worry about how that pain will be instrumentalized (by those who don't care about our wellbeing anyway) to do other abhorrent things.
I recommend this thoughtful thread by @tabouchadi.bsky.social. For many of us who were celebrating Pride in Berlin on Saturday, this captures how we feel.
Thank you, Liza! It’s been a pleasure 💜
@uclspp.bsky.social hiring a variety of fixed-term and PGTA roles: www.ucl.ac.uk/work-at-ucl/...
Always so nice to get to speak with @alanrenwick.bsky.social about research! Here on @adamsharris.bsky.social and my paper in @bjpols.bsky.social, which can be accessed here: www-cambridge-org.libproxy.ucl.ac.uk/core/journal...
Additionally very happy that the new team signals clear continuity of the journal as space also inclusive of LGBTIQ+ research! 🏳️⚧️ 🏳️🌈
Wonderful news for gender and politics! I’m thrilled by the selection of this brilliant new team, grateful to them for taking on this major service role, and have no doubt they’ll shepherd the journal to new heights. Huge congrats to Maarja, Michal, Quinn, Natalie, Malu, and Hanna!
And thank you @pablolion.bsky.social !!!
Grateful to @elpais.com for featuring our research on Budapest Pride and its critical role in Orban's eventual defeat. Our findings show how the attempted repression of Pride helped transform LGBTQI visibility into a broader defense of freedom and democracy.
