@matt yes In theory. In practice, we seem to have much less of a bullying problem here than the UK / US, but I can't put my finger on exactly why. Homogeneity comes to mind, but that surely can't be the full explanation, our cities are much more mixed geographically when it comes to social class [β¦]
Wait it out. It would take people a week to switch to DeepSeek, and then the change would be rolled back. https://techopolis.social/@mikedoise/117406430550579430
I heard an interesting claim recently, stating that countries which sort school children into permanent groups, instead of every student choosing a list of subjects and getting a personalized schedule, cause much deeper friendshipps to form. I'm not sure whether this is true, but I live in one [β¦]
@matt I think it goes deeper than that. In Poland where I live, the memory of communism and the atrocities that communist governments hawe wrought on us. is still fresh on our minds, even for those who haven't directly lived through the era. This country has been lifted out of poverty, all [β¦]
@fastfinge @FreakyFwoof Poland does this for sitting on cold surfaces / stone. "Don't sit on this or you'll "get the wolf"", AKA get sick, why we call it that I have no idea.
In tomorrow's issue of The Guardian: "How your power company, phone carrier and neighborhood grocery store make money from Nazi newsletters". This is getting ridiculous. https://mastodontti.fi/@mhalila/117382332593562423
@FreakyFwoof I was talking to somebody over Elten, which is basically Teamtalk-quality Opus underneath, when they were on the Warsaw Metro. It was fully stable with basically no hitches. That is quite impressive to be honest.
There should be a standardized spec for providing a markdown file inside your app bundle that provides helpful interop/integration details for e.g. interacting with custom file formats to agents like Claude or Codex, without having to implement an MCP or something complicated
And for those who do not have the context to understand this, this is only true about frontier or near-frontier models, at suficiently high effort levels. It is notably not true for free models, even those from the big labs, as well as any model from Google. If you're testing AI without paying [β¦]
So where are the "Bluesky is just a bunch of vulture capitalists who could never make anything as decentralized as Mastodon" people now? https://abyssdomain.expert/@filippo/117349722399603247
@tristan They're getting promotions due to "enabling 10x annual growth in DaUs..."
@prism @matt @tristan In fact, nobody does. Chips are a bunch of black magic metal engineering, greatly aided by computer software. Nobody lays transistors out by hand any more. The majority of chip design work isn't chip design, it's writing testing programs to find bugs in the design, and then [β¦]
@prism @matt @tristan What I'm noticing is that a large part of "using it well" involves getting a paid subscription. A lot of the Anti AI crowd will just test some free model with no web search and no reasoning, and then have some incoherent complaints about hallucinations or some such. The [β¦]
Incidentally, if you werenβt already aware, you can run Activity Monitor in Instruments against your iOS devices and watch CPU and resource usage across the system
@FreakyFwoof No no no no. Apps are for being used, not for being cute. Show me that there is an error, plus an advanced options button that lets me see the stack trace.
And football, at least in Europe, would likely be a series of offensive anti-immigrant slurs shouted from the stands... https://merveilles.town/@lrhodes/117259051444954175
@fastfinge That's assuming the crawlers are doing more than 2, 3 requests per IP. Not a safe assumption.
@jscholes They also pretend to be this lefty, anti-capitalist newspaper, while also requiring you to pay to disable personalized advertising in the EU.
@mauve @TheQuinbox Standard question, how does this handle devices that can't establish a direct connection because of NAT?
@FreakyFwoof Mac pages also lets you turn on tagging, but it's hidden somewhere under a disclosure triangle, and it tries to prevent you from doing it. It's a stupid design.
