Tonight I learned that if I press function+left control+left shift+left capslock, it'll reverse my control and caps lock keys. Seeing as I use capslock as the NVDA modifier key, this became a problem. Other special things about this keyboard include that pressing right control+right windows is […]

I haven't done a #fedidreams for a while, so here's one from last night. I dreamed I had started a business making and selling plush octopuses, under the brand octo-pussies. Unfortunately, my plushies were so ugly that everyone who saw them screamed and threw up. So many customers complained […]

@FreakyFwoof Yup. I grew up in a heavily Chinese/Korean area. It's a popular supersticion in these cultures that you shouldn't leave fans running in a closed room for too long, because they'll suck out all the oxygen. So if the classroom was hot, but it was raining so the windows couldn't be […]

@FreakyFwoof I doubt you'll be able to get anything non-stupid out of it. More of a silly art project really. If I was an artist I'd put it in a giant radio with flashing lights, knobs, and a fake antenna. Exhibit it somewhere as the alien radio.

@FreakyFwoof Okay, here you go. Note that this is tested to work on one windows computer of mine. It may or may not work on mac? The documentation is...probably enough for your AI? Maybe? Absolutely nothing else is tested. github.com/fastfinge/audai

What happens if you take a sample of human speech and force an autoencoder to continue it? For those of you who are unfamiliar, an autoencoder is a type of neural network usually used to encode and reproduce speech data. In general, it would be guided as part of a text to speech model like […]

If you use the eloquence64 addon for #eloquence with #NVDA, release v22 is available. This one has some interesting new things:
• speedups: we've lowered some buffers, and tightened several calls, making eloquence less laggy overall
• antivirus false positive fixes: we've changed the way the […]

The numbers are staggering. The numbers are wobbling. The numbers just need to have a little sit down for a bit, please.

Turn a notebook into a website.

Joplin 3.7 lets you publish a whole notebook at once. The links between your notes still work, so what people get is a small site they can browse - and it updates as you keep writing.

How to correctly perform automatic updates for Hermes agent

Updating Hermes agent on an automatic schedule is much, much harder than it should be.

Hot take: Complaining about some tasteless or even harmful thing that someone did with generative AI, then proclaiming "No AI!", doesn't make any more sense then complaining about spam, or any of the other bad things that the Internet enables, and then proclaiming, "No Internet!". We should […]

@tristan Happy to take pull requests.

@FreakyFwoof Ah, okay. Of course, I'm running in docker, so I don't have easy access to the folder structure. Maybe a fix would be to make the page at clip.interfree.ca say "running with 3 buckets" or whatever? Then people would know if there are unexpected buckets. But it could be that logging […]

@fastfinge.fed.interfree.ca.ap.brid.gySep 24, 2026, 1:01 PM

@FreakyFwoof Yeah, client-side is probably the only way to do it. Either that or make the server log every time it creates a new bucket. So if someone was troubleshooting, they would see logs like "Sam's Framework joined the server and created a bucket. Sam's mac joined the server and used an […]

@fastfinge.fed.interfree.ca.ap.brid.gySep 24, 2026, 12:57 PM

@FreakyFwoof Yeah, I think that's right. The main thing is to know if you're joining an existing bucket, or if a new bucket was created. If a new bucket was created, and you did not expect that to happen, it's on you to figure out why. But now you know what happened, so you don't waste time […]

@fastfinge.fed.interfree.ca.ap.brid.gySep 24, 2026, 12:54 PM

@FreakyFwoof So one small issue with this design. Doesn't it mean if I make a typo on one of my machines, and enter an incorrect password, it suddenly won't share history with all the others, and I won't know why? I might suggest a message when first setting up a machine alerting if it's […]
