I'm reading and reviewing the 6 shortlisted Booker Prize novels. Here’s my lil look at 3/6: May We Feed the King. It's a puzzling and poetic novel that asks: how do we know anything about history?
I’m reading and reviewing the 6 novels shortlisted for the Booker Prize this year.
Here is 2/6: The Things We Never Say, a moving character drama by Elizabeth Strout.
Oh my heart. ❤️ (I’m easily touched though).

I kind of like this “battle of the books” concept so I made my own template (msg me if you want it!) & am rating the books I've read in 2026. Stay tuned for the Dec 2026 winner.
I’d like to see yours too!

OK I see. Well, I came across it but I've already read and enjoyed the book!
Cool book - are you reading it?
Shadow of the Object is offbeat, poetic, and preoccupied with pre-cinema ephemera like magic lanterns. It's Amelie-esque, sometimes mesmerising, and more interested in aesthetic inquiry than traditional plot entertainment.

Check out @daja57.bsky.social’s excellent book reviews. Here’s one many. And they’re proper thoughtful reviews, not dodgy AI bots 🤖
Flashlight by Susan Choi. Lots of praise and award nominations, but a little less engaging than I hoped for. It’s a family/historical drama with a jolting twist halfway through (which improves things).

Excellent review by the way. I didn’t think about the parallels to paradise lost.
Oh man it’s so weird isn’t it! But I still really liked it!

Many haunted rewards available!
Ah thanks, no I haven’t heard of that one. Interesting that it’s addressing the same issue.
Lots of hype around Switzy, long listed for the Booker Prize, just released in September. Tough subject matter - mental decay, the loss of identity and death - but still a surprisingly enjoyable read.

Fantastic! Glad you liked it. Nice review. I agree, it’s all about that sinister subtext. I really enjoyed it.
Ooh watch it if you get a chance. It’s good, plus a fascinating comparison.
What a list!
Nice review, Annie
I thought this book was OK but was kind of blown away by the film adaptation of it.
Newly crowned winner of the 2026 Arthur C Clarke Award, When There Are Wolves Again is a loving plea to rewild the planet. Read it, drink a cup of tea, look out the window at some birds, imagine a better future.
