Absolutely! He is amazing. He’s involved in Steffen’s foundation and I’ve run into him at Iditarod.
There is a Norwegian documentary crew who are making a film with Steffen’s footage that will be out in a few months ❤️
Thank you so much ❤️
What a beautiful piece. Braverman deeply empathizes with Steffen while straightforwardly reporting his story, a pretty neat trick. The photography is also great and the included snippets of Steffen's videos really add to the sense of who he was. Great Sunday morning read!
Thank you so much!

Thank you Seth ❤️
" I asked the grand chief of a council what he thought of Steffen, an outsider, coming north...“Steffen started a relationship with a First Nations woman, lived among our people, started learning our language,” he told me. “Nobody does that. I wish the prime minister would do that.”
"Back to wind and back to bears. Bears on rocks and bears in gullies, sleepy bears, old bears, baby bears with dirty elbows, bears that rolled in dead seal and smelled like wet dogs. This was stupid, Steffen thought. He didn’t want to be around bears like this. "

In his videos, Steffen is joyful, earnest, funny, profoundly kind. His connection with his dogs was extraordinary. Learning about him and the community in northern Canada that he fell in love with—and planned to live in forever—has been so meaningful. What an adventure he lived.
Over 25 hours of footage — his video diaries — were recovered with his body. His family shared it with me so I could piece together his journey.
It’s been such an honor to work on this story for the past 5 months. A young Norwegian, Steffen, was trying to cross Canada on foot and with sled dogs. His dogs survived; tragically, he did not. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
