ICE wants to intimidate, demoralize, and overpower us. But they clearly don’t know New York. These are our communities. These our streets. Say his name: Oscar Belgal. 📸 Scout Tufankjian

Say his name: Oscar Belgal.

We demand an independent investigation into the NYPD’s role with ICE. City Council must pass the CURB Act to rein in the NYPD and protect protest. The city must close loopholes in our sanctuary policies. We demand an investigation into the shooting of Oscar Belgal. Abolish ICE - now.

@nyclu.orgOct 9, 2026, 9:46 PM

We cannot call ourselves a sanctuary city when the NYPD clears the path for ICE but goes after protestors, like we saw last night, or when the police commissioner carries water for Homeland Security and smears the name of Oscar Belgal.

@nyclu.orgOct 9, 2026, 9:46 PM

ICE shot at Oscar Belgal multiple times while he was in his car with his 5-year-old. He was rushed from the hospital and couldn’t be found by his own lawyers. The bullet remains in his neck. This shooting is what happens when a rogue, racist, and unaccountable ICE operates freely on our streets.

Christa Pike and Tony Carruthers' torturous execution attempts aren't exceptions, but a predictable result of the death penalty's brutality. We must end the death penalty once and for all.

Dolores Huerta is one of the most influential labor leaders of the 20th century. As co-founder of United Farm Workers, she organized hugely impactful walkouts and boycotts. We honor her ongoing fight for our communities.

Bright pink ACLU Latine Heritage Month graphic honoring Dolores Huerta, labor organizer and feminist activist. A centered photo shows Huerta wearing colorful traditional clothing and a feathered headdress. Her quote reads, “I say that now we see a lot of hateful rhetoric against Mexicans and the Latino community, but we have a very powerful weapon. And that is our vote.” Colorful decorative patterns frame the graphic, with the ACLU logo at the bottom.

The NYCLU is proud to be here today for The People’s Hearing on Immigration Enforcement in NY.

This project matters. These stories matter. The human toll of the Trump regime’s racist, cruel war on immigrants matters.

We fight because we can. We fight because we must. @dlnyclu.bsky.social

Amid the Trump admin's relentless attacks on transgender young people—and hospitals' capitulation to this fearmongering—it's critical for trans youth to have access to necessary healthcare. We commend the Mamdani admin for investing in access to the healthcare trans people rely on to be themselves.

It doesn't have to be like this. Gov. Hochul must sign the Freedom to Read Act, which requires school districts to adopt clear, rigorous protocols for handling book challenges, and also protects educators and librarians who select materials that are later removed. Add your name 👇

📚 Their top targets are often books that are about race or racism, feature people of color, or include LGBTQ+ characters. But officials censor many other books – including long-taught classics – over sex, violence, death, grief, and other frequent topics of great literature.
